Re: [DFF] basejumping helmet
Nice work!

Where did you get those "pull to release" lock for the chinstrap?

Thanks.

Re: [DFF] basejumping helmet
oh NOW I see the purpose of this! lol
I wouldn't say it's safe with the chin gaurd, though. When the helmet gets snatched back that thing is gonna go straight at your nose snap your neck backwards.

Re: [DFF] basejumping helmet
Is it really a good idea to have a helmet that will come off if you are bouncing down a wall ?

Re: [Dunny] basejumping helmet
I'm with you, I'd rather have a helmet that stays on and a camera mount that comes off. Just my .00000000002$

Re: [alantrinidad] basejumping helmet
you really have to pull hard on the strap. gopro mount is breaking earlier then the strap closure.
anyway, this chinstrap is not literarely a "release system" but if you don't have one it is a possible alternative.
and it is just secondary, if i would have not mentioned it there would be no discussion about the chinstrap.

i just wanted to show a protective helmet.
light weight, low profile (if chinguard removed), cool looking and, upgraded with high tech foam, a little bit more save.

if you don't like the chinstrap, replace it, maybe you can find a nice solution for installing a cut away system.

maybe one day the skydiving helmet industry will figure out that in the 21st century we do not need just a cam mount because we are basejumping, swooping, sometimes try to hug a wall or a tree, or we just hammer down our heads into the ground during a bad landing.

Re: [DFF] basejumping helmet
You need MORE force than a GoPro mount?
Crazy

And the GoPro mount stays for ~7 seconds with a PC wraped around it at terminal.

So again, whats the good thing about this helmet?
I might have missed it Tongue

Re: [Hellis] basejumping helmet
okay just a last try to make it coherent:

this helmet is less expensive then a skydiving helmet and it helps to avoid craniocerebral injurys because it has a schockabsorbing layer (certificated according the EN966).
a skidiving helmet does not have this benefit, a motorcycle helmet is to heavy and bulky for basejumping or skydiving.

i hope it's easy enough, if not... ask google

i am not talking about wrapped pilotchutes! in this case even the best helmet will not help.... but maybe the free helmet (if light enough) can drag the bridle enough to let the pins pop out...... i guess for handheld we'll need size xxl, for terminal speed xs..... Laugh

the gopromount broke when my cam got entangled with the steel rope of the hangglider i jumped from. my skiing helmet was still on my head.
the strap closure is keeping the helmet on your head. but if you pull directly and hard on the strapclosure it breaks, i think because its not made for this kind/direction of force.
this is proved by myself (on a skiinghelmet with same closure) that you can destroy the closure by pulling the strap. i got my gopro entangled in a line on a low jump (i changed cam setup, after all the years i should have known it better). i grabbed my chinstrap and pulled hard so my helmet went of and i had a save landing.

no it is not the best system in the universe, but i am assured it works.

and again, the discussion about breaking straps or mounts is just pointless, just a hook for the ignorant.

i wanted to show a allrounder helmet, light and not bulky, upgraded with high-tec foam for face protection because i cant find something better on the market.
what you see on my fb pictures is the best compromise i could find at the moment.

if you or someone else have a better helmet, i (and for sure many other jumpers) would be happy to see something innovativ.

cheers

Re: [DFF] basejumping helmet
Nice work. It's nice to see someone being innovative. My solution to the issue was to go with a downhill mtn biking helmet (pro tec auger). It is fairly lightweight, rated for impact, relatively inexpensive, and is full face. The 661 helmet offered on the apex site is even lighter and a little smaller overall but still rated.

I know there are ways to argue all sides of the issue and find snag points etc. with any solution but I think the most important thing is to wear a helmet. Preferably one that will offer actual protection instead of just being a camera mount.

Again, nice job on being innovative, finding something that works for you, and posting it for others to see.

Be safe-ish out there.
