ITW - scrap yard
If your car breaks down whilst visiting the ITW please do not abandon it behind the bar.

This has happened twice now, even though there is a scrap yard just 10mins up the road from the LZ.

The police are hassling the locals to help trace the owner.

The fine increases each day so it would be smart to move it asap.

Call Felix; it's probably his. Everybody knows he's always burning sites one way or another.

A year on, the owner has still not shown up to remove his yellow campervan.

If anyone has contact info for french Pierre who was resident at Brento during 2012 please let me know. Photo attached.

The police are hassling the local jumpers and bar about removing the vehicle...

Re: [unclecharlie95] ITW - scrap yard
Do you know how much it would be to have it removed? Would it be something that we as jumpers could all pitch in on as good faith to the ITW police and community? You know, seeing as they let us jump an awesome wall all the time? I have never jumped there but plan to next year and wouldn't mind throwing $10 or so into the pot to have it removed. Then we as the jumping community could try to collect from the owner I suppose, but better than the police having a reason to be upset with the jumpers.

Still very shitty he left it there... Crazy

Re: [Rauk] ITW - scrap yard
As someone who hopes to make some jumps there, I'd pitch in as well.

Is it in decent condition? If it's been abandoned for so long, could it be sold off? Sounds like it could be awesome for someone who wanted to travel around the alps on a budget for a summer...

The last two posts are both great ideas.

First off, in the USA, many states and local governments have laws that say if something is abandoned for a given period of time, then the owner forfeits his ownership rights and it's free for the taking by anybody. I don't know if this is the case in Suisse, but if it is, then either scenario would work.

Call the scrap yard; they will probably just take it away for free - especially if it's fixable and not just a parts vehicle.

Or claim it for yourself if you need it and it's worth fixing. Obviously, be sure about the law for claiming ownership of an abandoned vehicle, but the thing that really helps the process here is that the police and the bar owner have documented and can attest to the fact that it's been abandoned for a very long time, and that it is owned by a foreign national, so taking possession may be pretty simple.

Cool

I like the collection idea.

It would cost around 200-250$ to have it removed / scrapped. Unfortunately the scrap yard won't tow it for for free.

(I know as l had to scrap a car once before for an Australian jumper who was honest and paid up)

The camper-van engine is totaled and it is in bad shape.

The only hurdle to the collection idea is that we still need the vehicle registration document from Pierre ('cart grise' in french) to scrap the vehicle.

I hope Pierre will pop out of the woodwork and tidy up his mess..

Has anyone considered the possibility he may have had an accident on a jump there?
Just a thought.

Can't you get his contacts through the license plate ?

For Robinheid, in Switz your property remains your property. That kind of situation would have tickets collecting in your name, car moved/towed and stored, at your expense etc etc.

And probably has no bearing on what goes down in Italy :-)

Re: [unclecharlie95] ITW - scrap yard
When I was living in an adjacent EU member state, I crashed my van into an apple tree in a small chicken field while an extremely large-breasted farm girl who occupied the passenger seat screamed profanity at me. The van was totaled. One of the nearby villages had a group of Albanians who bought the car for 450 Euro and took it off our hands and promptly out of the country. Of course, I was the legal owner and a legal resident, so all of the papers were, as they say, in order. Overlooking this minor technicality, maybe you could find some similarly motivated people to disassemble the van during the cover of darkness and transport it to a location that suits them. "Oh my goodness, where has the van gone?"

Or you could find Pierre.

Re: [stinkydragon] ITW - scrap yard
If the van is causing an obstruction on Public property the Police will be obliged to remove it and follow the last registered owner for costs/fines etc. (Pierre, if the van is in his name) If he left it on Private property then the owner of the land will have to make a civil case against the owner or pay to get the vehicle off his land.

Re: [unclecharlie95] ITW - scrap yard
I have managed to get hold of the vehicle registration document so can now scrap the camper.

To have the vehicle removed will cost 400 euro (tow truck + cost to dispose of vehicle lining).

If anybody is willing to participate in this fee please send a few $ to my paypal account: james.boole@gmail.com

(If we are unable to reach the total I will reimburse all the money)

for your contributions. The camper was removed today.

In the end the cost was 300 euro (as the camper contained less toxic material than expected).

I can refund a % of everyones donations or if no-one objects I will put the 100 euro left over towards a new windsock pole for the main landing area.

ITW welcomes everyone! Please come and enjoy this wonderful and unique site! But PLEASE take your SH!T home afterwards.
