Okay, General Question here on a Second Canopy.

I currently have a BJ280 and was wondering about purchasing a second all around canopy.

I was leaning towards either a Flik or Fox with either 1 or 2 vents. Something a bit more friendly for slider ups, but still rocking the static line low stuff too.

Why not a Troll MDV? an excellent all around canopy

Do't know much about them I guess. Is there a standard on the number of Valves, Etc?

Also, do you know if they do Logos on them? ;)

There is a lot to be said for having 2 identical canopies.

Yeah, being familiar with the Flight Characteristics when you need them can only be a Plus!

Seems you already have the perfect all round base canopy.

get an ace 280
it will fly pretty much the same as your blackjack, work for SL, Slider up, and everything.
as fledgeling said, there is alot to be said for having two of the same wing !

What about the BJ is NOT friendly for slider up? I hear this once in awhile and it always confuses me. I've never had problems with BJ on slider up jumps. If you're getting hard openings then adjust your packing style to slow it down. Even a ragged out old Fox can slam you if you pack it wrong.

Even after breaking my back twice, terminal openings on a Blackjack were no problem.

If you're happy with what you have, there is a really good argument for just buying another of the same.

i would also agree with the above... if you're comfy with your blackjack, buy another one. i have tons of terminal rides on BJs both ZP and regular. no problem great canopies.

Just want something that might not Spank quit as hard on longer delays 8+. Ace with two vents might be nice.....

I've had harder opening with a non-vented ace (don't think they come with vents) than both my BJ's.

Use a fine mesh slider if you're feeling the kick.

Yeah, the Ace has no vents.....I was trying to be funny.

I had a small mesh slider on when she spanked me like a Swiss Virgin.

Looks like the consensus is buy the same type canopy for your second canopy. With myself only making about 30 BASE jumps a year that might not be such a bad idea.

I know several riggers who will add bottom skin valves to any canopy, in any configuration you want.




How tight is her direct control stow? If you keep her nice and tight she's less likely to spank you.

If you haven't tried it, you might also roll the outside cells of the nose tightly and then push them together over that magic spot in the middle, to see if that improves her openings.

Locking Stow had two wraps. I had a small bite of the slider wrapped with just one to the center C. I was rolling the three outside cells and sticking them behind the center cell.

I have two canopies.

For slider up jumps - Flick (before ir I had Troll MDW)
For slider down -OSP

I could not find huge difference between Troll and Flick (in same size). In case if you are planning to jump only slider up I would recommend to take smaller size (245)
