Introducing myself
Hello,

My names nick i'm 24 from the south-east UK. Leaving in a month to go to Geraldton Australia. Only recently started skydiving but been a life long ambition. At some point (after alot of training and jumps) i would like to take it to the next step into B.A.S.E. Just wondering if anyone knows where i can carry on my training in aus? or if anyone has any recommendations? Really not going to have alot of money so willing to help out in any way.

I know i'm along way from B.A.S.E but we all have to start somewhere.

Thanks for any help

nick

If you pursue life in the manner that you have lazily pursued BASE then you have no chance dude. Ya gotta be a stalker, Sherlock it. Shall I google it for you? Want me to hold your hand while you google or shall i just push the ".com" button?
To specifically answer your question of "Just wondering if anyone knows where i can carry on my training in aus?" the answer is no. Now I give you a task young grasshopper. Find out why I am being such an A**hole. If you find this out you have begun your first step to.....
post it. I recommend you dont do stuff that you are not prepared to stalk for. How old am I, Where do I live? What is my nationality?
Take care, think and google.

BASE in Australia is at a very high technical standard, so actual beginner training there is very difficult to manage.

The best Australian based training is the course sponsored by the Australian BASE Association. The course is by application, and usually runs only once per year. It's generally done as a trip to the States, with first jumps done here (Twin Falls, Idaho) followed by intermediate training in Moab, Utah.

If you want more information about the ABA course (or BASE in Australia generally), I'd recommend contacting the ABA instructors, Simon Plum and Timmy McDonald. If you want their email addresses, shoot me a PM and I'll pass them on to you.

Tom, he didnt do the homework. Fuckhim. Telll him to go away instead pushing this lazy ass on the Aussie guys. I know that helping peep is good but ya gotta draw a line. This guy wants everything handed to him on a silver platter because he introduce himself.. Ya, Game on. To You Brooker. Run as fast fast as you can away. If you are a bad BASEr, You will die soon! If you are a gifted BASEr, You will watch your friends die.! Why should we help you to the dark side? What benefit do we get? take this as an attack and we are kicked out of the forum. discuss things and take a slap then maybe.....
Sorry Tom , I respect you , but you got no right to suggest a loser on the Aussie scene.

Hey Nick,

Dont be alarmed mate by teh comments you receive,

its just that most people who are on here have been in the jumping scene for atleast a while and always come across the same posts by people like yourself..

the best thing to do it read read read everything on here mate, all the articles and do alot of homework..

if you did do your homework you would know that the aussie base scene has its own website and if you fit the qualifications to be on the aussie fjc course then you will be accepted,

but i am guessing you have 45 skydives ,own a go pro or 3 and still not allowed to jump it,, and dream everyday while studying in australia watching youtube and facebook videos on basejumping..

everyone well almost everyone has done this mate..

but for you if you have done over 200 skydives or much more(which i recommend) you would know a heap more then not knowing your local droppie and not knowing your local base jumpers..

all you have to do is start reading through all the old threads mate and you can see where these people who have posted are talking about..

Good luck with your search buddy..

But remember dont rush to get into base jumping , learn ya skills in skydiving first, because with out any skills or watching accidents at your local droppie, then things happen rather fast in the base scene and if ya not prepared mate, you may only be in both scenes for limited jumps..

take care out there mate..

Space, I'm not going to ban you, bro. Don't be silly Smile

I'm sure that the Aussie jumpers would rather the guy came to them and ask questions than just started chucking himself off their objects and getting hurt. I know the ABA instructors fairly well, and they're both the kind of guys who are going to sit down and take a few minutes to chat and try to help straighten the guy out with a real plan for moving forward appropriately.

> How old am I

Older than dirt.

> Where do I live?

Somewhere between a big tent full of beer and a terminal cliff. Look for the guy with the hackey sack.

> What is my nationality?

You, sir, are a citizen of the worldwide brotherhood of BASE.

Thicker skin is going to serve you well getting into BASE. Lots of us learned things the hard way, and that doesn't make us the most gentle teachers.

Base283, Your spot on mate! Its fucking hard enough here as it is, that's just what we need, a complete rookie coming to fuck shit up and create more media/police attention!!! If you had of read anything or talked to anyone, you would know that Australia isn't for the first time jumper. But there are the rare exceptions of course. CoolWink

Stalker :-) . You worked for that. For sure I would help you. need my address? hahaha no prob.. come over and make sure you have your toggles labeled :-)
Why the crap cant these big enders (beginners) do the same. Stalking I mean. I will google the crap out of any site I iwant to do. New agers should be better than i googling.

Example on: Hey guys! i like what you do and I want this sport for free and sorry yo BASE bros died but serve it to me on a silver platter because I have a go pro..... and can you tube it and get laid.....
Example off.
Not at you because you are stirring the pot showing the youngins how. But I know 30% of the BFL. ok, maybe 25% now that people are repeating age old mistakes and they mean nothing to me. But oh!!! they want me to help them and they have no idea.
I am getting angry about the silver platters mfs.

no worries. seeking profi help. But PM me if you want your toggles labeled or do terminal.
Take care and I guess no one will ever read this and be able toanswer the questions as close as you did because it aint served up on a silver platter because they introduced them selves.
ciao.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have pictures of you all over the walls in my secret room in the basement...;)

It was super easy to find your bio. Just like it is super easy to find out info on BASE jumping. I have never taken a FJC, or been to the bridge in Idaho that everyone is talking about. I don't need to label my toggles because I learned a long time ago the way to tell the right from the left. I down loaded the FBJC canopy drills and started them during aff. The info is out there, it just needs a tiny bit of effort to find it. I have a sweet object with lots and lots of room to practice drills from so that when I need the skills on another object I have them. That's not to say I won't go in on my next jump. But if I do, I'll know why and how it happened.

Bam! First response to a first poster, right out of the gate with the standard base-forum warm welcome. Glad to see nothing has changed. Shaking my head at why I even bothered to jump on here tonight... only a handful of logins a year and this is what I still find.

Nick... dig deep in your research, but asking questions in the forum is a lesson in frustration, bewilderment and a continuous WTF...

I've found success to questions by reading enough of the forums to get a sense of who's legit and who's a forum-hound. If I find someone I think is legit, I'll send them a PM, introduce myself and ask a question. Take it from there based on the sincerity of the response you get. And remember there's almost always more than 1 right answer in base... as in everything important in life, most answers in base start out with "It depends..."

Enjoy the journey... and welcome!

Re: [flydive] Introducing myself
I think the response is perfectly warranted. There is thing thing called google, and most of the time it knows what you're looking for before you can finish typing it. I for one educated myself thoroughly with the guidance of all the sticky forums at the top of all the base/skydiving beginner forums. Its not like its a well kept secret. People watch YouTube and as soon as the video has ended, its time to post a thread on here.
