Digital logbook for Base jumping.
G'day all,
Myself and Mick Hardy have designed an advanced log book programme specifically to log base jumps. it has an easy mode and an advanced mode and can graph and make statistics for pretty much anything you can think of in base jumping and can link to photos/videos etc.
Mick is struggling to find motivation to finish the project and wants to know if jumpers would actually purchase this product. Please tell us your thoughts. We are hoping accurate stats will help keep jumpers & the sport safer.
here is a short video to what it can do in the advanced mode. There will be a longer one out next week.
please PM me with constructive criticisms. i would love to hear from Base teachers and gear manufacturers as well on this.
cheers
Douggs

seriously people, learn to make clickiesTongue

it's a great idea and product Douggs, you guys should definitely finish it. Logging is good. I would say i'd use it but i already created my own fairly robust digital logbook. Tongue i would however recommend it to the masses and students!Smile

Considering I write software, I am impressed. Looks very clean.

Considering my current logbook is a 2 foot tall glass jar with rocks of different color where each rock logs a jump, each color documents the type of jump, I have a built in charting and graphing system in place, I just can't sort very efficientlyTongue... So I would consider logging if I had even more cool tool to use (but my glass jar will remain the master database.)

My suggestion for the $$$ viability... Make it skydiving friendly too. You open up a huge market of people more willing to spend money to subsidize the BASE jumpers.Tongue In all seriousness, I think it could be as simple as numbering skydives "S-1, S-2" and BASE "B-1, "B-2". Maybe a checkbox for "is BASE jump." Lots of the other gear transfers over. The jump mates and ground crew for Balloons, BASE, and skydives are often the same... Wingsuits are used on both... It would be cool to track how many total jumps on a wingsuit, and with heads up displays, being able to track performance on BASE vs Skydives...

Nice. I've been using an excel spreadsheet for a while but your program looks sweet. Let me know when it's released.

Looks like an amazing product, but... Any chance it would be Mac friendly? I'd be interested for sure.

Mate looks awesome. Is there an estimated cost, or at least an indicative range for the software??

if it goes ahead it will most likely be under $50-
here is a long version tutorial of all the features of what the log book would do

the best part of this application is the Party Drug List! does that come with the $50 purchase price? Tongue

Build it as SaaS, expand your target group to skydivers, divers, etc as well. Call it Log-R or some other fancy name, make more money and provide better service. A new feature is wanted? Hey the app is in the cloud and the data is in a db, it can be added really quick. Have options for the users to export their data as CSV, SQLite, pdf with fancy graphs etc. Have a web API for personal log handling.

Hmm, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. Jumpers are not the only people who needs to log stuff. If you need a back end guy or want to dev this idea, let me know :)
