Stratos project
However I might feel about Felix' other "projects", respect for pulling this one off. Great job.

so i guess there has to be a maximum height where you will get the "longest freefall" time possible. you would think that being like 20k higher than kittenger, he would have broken the freefall delay record but it seems that when there is NO air up there the vaccuum pulls you that much quicker down to the denser air.............kinda weird. still waiting to hear if he broke the sound barrier

No, not at all.

Basically, Joe Kittinger used a drogue, Felix didn't.

I expected Karr would've trolled that jump and tracked around equator.

Haha.

Did anyone else notice the flat spin? Flat spin at mach 1 wearing a space suit will probably pucker the ol' pooper.

Felix is also a dirty high puller!

Yeah, he was a bit out of control there for a while. Glad he was able to pull it together before blacking out.

You could hear them say "8,000 feet" in the TV broadcast right after pulling, but in another internet broadcast you could hear in the background someone in mission control saying, "remember, that is MSL." Roswell is 3573 MSL, so he pulled at 4,400 feet (ish) if I believe the commentary... Probably the height I would want to pull at if I had the risk of line twists in a space suit.Tongue

Re: [jakee] Stratos project
Not @ you jakee.
General info. (He's my BASE student and I was / am here in Roswell).
Planned opening was at 5000agl, he ended up around 5300agl. He was unable to see any handles and he had 6 to deal with. If he wanted to look down at his handles, there is a pulley system that he can use to tilt the helmet down but then he cant see ahead until he releases the pulley system. Another prob is that one cannot feel the relative wind in freefall whilst wearing a space suit. so flying is more mental. Like a video game. No feedback from air resistance.
Take care,
space

It's great Mr. Yoda Spacy that you helped Felix jump from Space. Ha. Congrats my friend! I shed a tear on that. We need a debrief so we can understand why he tumbled.

I thought about sneaking into the capsule and being the first person to bandit load a space skydive.. Didnt look like there was a good hiding spot while security was busy checking the stairs ;)
