Wingsuit pilot chute size
Hi,

Just interested what size of pilot chutes you are using for terminal wingsuit jumps. I am using Troll 225 vented and 34" for terminal tracking. I definitely wouldn't want to go any larger than that for tracking (even 34 is pretty brisk opening). My next PC is 38 and I suspect the openings might be hard.

Comments?

There is already a post about this, seems like most people go 38 vented.

Can you explain how a larger PC would make your BASE openings harder?

I figure that that because it is a fairly light/small canopy the force applied by a 34 is more than sufficient. I have never had any hesitations but have had a few hard openings.
There must come a point where a larger PC leads to a higher snatch force, possibly causing line-dump and centre cell stripping. In practice I have definitely had harder opening when I have over-delayed with the 38.
So, what would be your advice for wingsuits?

38 or 36 both do the trick and I can't tell any difference, in regards to my opening sequence, between the two [260 feather, 80kg w/ V4] There are some ws pilots out there who are going as small as 32 but I like a bigger pc to combat the repercussions of a weak toss.

Hi,

Thanks - didn't find that first time. Maybe I'll try some nose rolling and the 38.

I use a 34" ventet ZP with large mesh and think it works great. Have used both 32" ZP and 36" F111 before, but like my 34" the best. I think size also depends on what suit you are flying and your flying style. I use a V3 flying fairly fast, but I know people in big TonySuits that prefer 38" ZP as they are floating more and feel they have slower speed at pull time.

I think its all about size and speed of the suit. Ive used a 34 f111 on a phantom and use a 38zp on my apache, 38 f111 on a V4.
