questions about setting up a base canopy for wingsuit skydiving
I am setting up my Troll 205 for wingsuit skydiving. And for the additional benefit of getting experience with a base canopy in a safeish environment.

My thought was this: put the troll on base risers with mesh slider and a 9ft bridle with a 32" vented ZP PC and freepack it.

I understand that folks tend to jump larger PCs in a wingsuit base environment (I believe this is correct), but will a 32" ZP pc work well for me in a skydiving environment? I am thinking it will produce a little less snatch force which may slow the opening down a little bit. (???)

Any help with guidance on the setup would be much appreciated. I hope to put 50-100 wingsuit skydives on this setup this winter before journeying to the twin falls bridge this spring to do a FJC. And just to add so you know where I'm coming from, I do not have any plans for wingsuit base (maybe some day but for now wingsuiting remains only something I like to do with friends from planes).

best and peace to you all,
Samadhi

That will work. You may find that your openings are pretty hard, and if you are pulling at normal skydiving altitudes you don't need to put up with that.

You can easily just swap the Troll onto skydiving risers and use the deployment bag, bridle and pilot chute from the skydiving rig. That should give you much more comfortable openings. You might also consider a sail slider, to soften things some more.

What kind of slider will you be using? Replacing a mesh slider with a sail slider will give you softer openings at terminal.

I have jumped BASE risers on my sky rig many times. One thing you need to remember is if you have to cut away the main, the rings might not be able to unfold if the webbing is holding them down. I put on my sky rig with BASE risers and laid on the floor, belly to earth, pulled the cut away handle and had a friend pull straight back, up at a 45 and straight up. The rings never came undone. I had to reach up and pull them down and out to allow the rings to unfold. The large rings on my sky rig are more on my chest than on my shoulders. Yours may be different. You should try.

I have a question too - is it OK to use a 2 pin base bridle when freepacking a base canopy into a skydiving rig? Or should I obtain a single pin bridle for use without a bag purely for skydiving?
It seems to me that it would be OK but I've been told that it isn't and I can't figure out why.

(Not for WS skydiving just hop+pops but this seemed a convenient place to ask).

I was told that the reason to not use a 2 pin bridle was because the second pin could cause damage to the rig or could snag causing a PC in tow - I use a 2 pin bridle and just wrap the second pin in tape to reduce the risks.

Thanks - I reckon I will just get a single pin bridle. Smile

If you plan to jump the mesh slider I would recommend using direct control on both C lines. This is my setup for big wall wing BASE and openings are really comfortable (a bit scary for some friends Laugh)
Your PC is OK. BTW I jump a Troll 265.
