I LOLd at him trying to switch them while he's flying towards the face.

Re: [KidWicked] Packing with control lines crossed?
My second jump ever I was so stoked to be jumping, and crossed my toggles at the bridge and put it in the drink.. Now every rig that I own has an "R" and an "L" on each toggle. Its an easy mistake when you are slamming pack jobs or new to the activity.. Now its hard with the rhythmic pack jobs I do

Re: [try2live] Packing with control lines crossed?
When I run the lines up for the tail gate I keep both sides separate till I get to the top, crossed lines would then be easily recognisable.

Having a R and L on the toggles is not a bad idea though.

Re: [base283] Packing with control lines crossed?
Ah, I think I figured it out how one can do this. Correct me if I am wrong. tying the risers or lines up top together where the lines are almost paralleling. hey mods can you move this to tech?
thanks,

No it's not. A simple line check will confirm that your lines are routed correctly. It literally takes a second to check, and better yet, you should be clearing the control lines to help prevent tension knots anyhow.

Happened once to me during my second jump... Super stoked after the first jump ever, and rushed to do another. Easy mistake for me during my second jump hyped on adrenaline... I can see how it can happen, and clearly it can

glad i'm not the only one who thinks that is a ridiculous mistake.

it is literally impossible to do that the way i pack. i did 10, 8-12 min packjobs this morning. not once did i consider the possibility of crossed toggles.

Yeah, but you pack like Chuck Peters.

This is a repost, this vid was post long ago, it was discussed, the jumper bashed like the idiot he is/was, and we moved on. This should be locked.

That is cool with the "R" and an "L" on each toggle.
You can decide which way to turn by reading the toggle.
Dude, I am sorry for giving so much crap. but you deserve it less than your instructor. Name the instructor or BASE course you took, You can help the community by fessing up and we as instructors/mentors can update our course. Please remember that the word "experience" is the word we give to our mistakes. So yes, I am very experienced. I mistaked a lot.
I and another highly exp instructor could not save George the Kiwi who died at ITW. It makes me feel inadequate so I am taking this out on you. Thanks for letting vent on you whether you like it or not.

Hm, if this had been discussed before, has anyone ever mentioned the 3-ring setup... seems even more jerry rigging took place...

But at least he did a gainer...

Re: [base283] Packing with control lines crossed?
If you cant do a proper gear check on your BASE gear after all the proper practice during the lead up to it through skydiving, then im sorry, but your in the wrong business. You shouldn't need to label you packing tabs etc.

Re: [base283] Packing with control lines crossed?
that IS a fantastic prank for someone who doesn't pay his packer :)

if someone did it on you on a skydive, would you:
a - cut away
b - have right toggle in left hand
c - double-cross, have right toggle in right hand
d - trust your rears

Grab the toggles, let go, re-grab them and continue as usual.

Only Step 1 and Step 2 of this process work if you are using the Line Release Mod. Step 3 is more like, "Oh shit fuck damn!" And in that case, Step 4 is Grab your rear risers.
Shortcut
Re: [Arvoitus] Packing with control lines crossed?
I think it would be pretty hard to pack it with the lines crossing the reserve without someone noticing it.

I think he means you undo the toggles and route them "wrong"

Re: [Huck] Packing with control lines crossed?
There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for jumping equipment configured this grossly misconfigured.

If this has happened to you, slap yourself in the face a few times for good measure.

Re: [avenfoto] Packing with control lines crossed?
While it shouldn't have happened I think he did a brilliant job of not dropping his toggles, and did better than most would have in that circumstance.

Not? Dropping his toggles? That is exactly what I think he should have done. Chuck em both and get on the rears, if you don't have the skills on your rears you shouldn't be sending gainers from solid Slider down objects.

Re: [nickfrey] Packing with control lines crossed?
Listen you asshole, what experience do you have? I have watched countless youtube videos, that makes me an expert! If you want to apologize you can do it via PM so you don't have to embarrass yourself in front of the entire BASE jumping community! Tongue
Shortcut
Re: [nickfrey] Packing with control lines crossed?
Personally, I would have re-fingertrapped each toggle on the appropriate brake line and then turned the canopy around. But that's just me, I never took an FJC.
