Re: [tmtm22] Anyone know this dude?
He's fine. Nothing happened to him.

Yikes! It didn't look like there was that much tailwind. I bet a tailgate would've produced a less shitty outcome.

Wow. Very basic mistake. I'm surprised that those guys didn't know better than that.

Re: [TomAiello] Anyone know this dude?
I thought it was because he spread his risers whilst still rolling over causing an inversion of sorts.... or as mentioned a tailgate.

I know someone who does diving roll overs with strong tailwind.(somtimes pushing canopy out of the way as he rolls over)

What is the very basic mistake?

I am missing it.

Looks like a terrible situation though and one to avoid.

Please advise.

I'd say the basic mistake is doing a McConkey in a tailwind.

What I see on the video is, as soon as the lines go slack, the wind rotates the canopy and blows it into the path of the lines, thus precioitatin`gthe deployment clusterfink.

And it does seem that one of "those guys" did know better; he just kept the camera rolling when the other one insisted on doing it anyway.

Re: [robinheid] Anyone know this dude?
Miles D was doing McConkey's in heavy tailwind (pushing nose of canopy out of the way on one as he went by) so I dont think tail wind is an issue.

Looks like spreading risers is the no no. Just a guess though.

Also just a guess, but I'd say Miles has an order of magnitude more knows-what-he's-doing between his ears and that probably counts a lot when jumping in tailwinds, you know, like when you have to push the canopy out of the way as you go by...

Its hard to tell due to poor video quality. But it looks like the way the canopy hanging before he jumps is a real mess regardless of tail wind.

Done about 50 and spreading the risers was my go to method. Maybe I got lucky.

TARD = Totally Awesome Rapid Deployment
I have seen Miles do many tards in person
and he does very little prep. Heard him say
"Spaghetti Factory" describing his lines.

Us mortal should do a pinch more prep and
remember which TARD to perform based on
the winds so we do not pull a Karnowski Tongue

Head Wind = McConkey, Rollover, Tard-Over
Tail Wind = Tard, Smart-Tard, Kite-Off
No Wind = Marry Poppins

I have seen someone hit the Snake River
with only 3 cells while doing an unpacked.
Scared the shit out of a dozen people.

By the way, I really enjoy unpacked jumps,
lowest one was a 180' B, and only need to
TARD an E to achieve UNpacked BASE Cool

And I've only seen him do one, which he did while holding a vacuum cleaner in the other hand (don't ask).

The main thing I learned: Don't listen to what Miles says; watch what he does, and what I saw him do on that jump was oh-so casually yet meticulously prep his canopy and lines and grip.

The silly season commentary is just to distract you from how heads up, dialed in and fiercely focused he is when he does what he does. Robert Frost busted him on this long ago:

"The style is the man. Rather say the style is the way the man takes himself. If it is with outer seriousness, it must be with inner humour. If it is with outer humour, it must be with inner seriousness."

Before I opened the video I knew this was going to be a potato bridge jump.
