Firebird cocoon - any info?
I can't find any mentions of this two-pin container on the forums or elsewhere. Does anyone have any info?

Thanks,

Re: [CLO_hb] Firebird cocoon - any info?
I owned 2 Cocoons and made about 240 jumps with them.

It is the 2nd generation of the Relax from the German manufacturer Performance Variable, now Firebird.
It is more or less a copy of the Perigee Pro.

On the upside it has the German TSO, you will be able to do legal jumps in Germany with it, as the VDO (German Base Jump Association) requests a TSO for such jumps.

On the down side it has no open corners and it may feel a bit heavy and stiff.
On the early version ( I had No. 1 and 2) the risercover comes open easily, that may have changed on the later ones.
The legstraps have buckles with springs that keep the strap in place when you are moving, but also make it difficult to undo the legstraps completely.

For a slider down rig it is not too bad, mine were sturdy and reliable.

Thanks for the info.

But as a slider-up rig...?

Perhaps I phrased it wrongly:
For me it was a favourite slider down rig because of the sturdy built I could crawl around without damage to the rig.

I did lots of slider up jumps with the Cocoon, I also jumped it with a Prodigy without any problems.

I did not jump it with the larger wingsuits, because I prefer "open" or "bottomless" corners for that.

Re: [CLO_hb] Cart in front of the Horse
Slider-Down jumps are usually shorter climbs/hikes.

Slider-UP jumps usually require a lot more time in
the approach climbing or hiking, hence weight of
gear is more of a concern.

Plus Slider-UP jumps you track, hence the shape
and weight can both affect this.

However, you first need a SKY rig and lots more
parachute experience before buying BASE gear.
Did you get the photos I sent of the Javelin?

Dont want to drift this thread but really? The German BASE Jump Assn. requires a TSO rig to jump.....like BASE jump or skydive?? AM I reading this incorrectly? What if I BASE jump in Germany with a non-TSO rig?

The keyword in Walters post was "legal". So to participate in germany in a VDO event (like the german bridge day for example) they require you to jump TSO'd (or equivivalent) rig. Couple of years ago they even required you to use a bellymount reserve... What you do on your own is entirely your business and the VDO has no means and I'm pretty sure no interest as well to control that.

Interesting. Thanks for clarifying. I did not realize a BASE Assn. had that kind of "power". Is it tied into a governing body for skydiving.......like USA's USPA?

Back on topic then, if a legal event is held in Germany is the Firebird the ONLY rig that participants are allowed to jump? I dont believe any other major man. rigs are TSOed? (well the Racer Crazy)

Well... Theoretically any event organising body has that power, they can demand you to wear a pink tutu and black rubber boots if they wish and if you do not want to comply, you do not jump in their event. Simple as that. Like the the black pants with go fast on the ass -rule on the certain event many many years ago which you as well remember quite well I guess. :) The VDO however, is affiliated with the German equivivalent of the USPA but some German jumper (Mahle for example) can give you the details on how it works there.

Also the Zak / Zak2 from Adrenalin has the German corresponding rating : http://adrenalinbase.com/...amp;T=equip&E=41

In July 2005 the Zak successfully passed the drop tests for the German (DFV) certification process (in flight, strength etc.).
It is now on the list of the parachutes approved by the legislation of this country.
The Zak can therefore be legally jumped in Germany, from a plane, or during legal Base events.

I seem to recall Morpheus was approved a number of years back too.

Jipp, heard this as well - but only in relation to the Gargoyle. AFAIK, Morpheus' other rigs have no rating in Germany. At least I could not get a rating for my Helium.
