(17:00 GMT)Dan was speedflying in Switzerland with two friends on Saturday 15th September. After a successful launch from the Jungfraujoch at a height of 11,333ft, he did not land back in Lauterbrunnen Valley as planned. Search and Rescue efforts throughout the night have not been successful, and to continue searching for him we need your help to raise funds.

Dan's insurance is now exhausted, and his family have already covered the second deployment, but are struggling. We need at least £6,000 to launch another helicopter search.

It has been over 26 hours since Dan was last seen. We are still hopeful that he is safe but stranded in a remote part of the glacial valley awaiting rescue.

(22:03 GMT)We just got news from Tim, it's been about 30 hours since Dan went missing. We now have about 5 volunteers from the UK so far to continue the search. If you have some mountaineering experience, are quite fit, and have some time to spare please get in touch if you would like to volunteer on the search mission.

"Hi everyone, We've just come off the mountain from doing a foot search of the lower valley but we really need more people. Two of Dans friends from the Uk are flying in tomorrow and two mountaineers from Switzerland are joining to help early tomorrow also (one of them being the famous Ueli Steck).

Please if you know anyone that is fit and has alpine experience, let them know we need volunteers ASAP. Also please keep the donations coming. We really need the helicopter to go up again tomorrow morning.

The town to reach is Lauterbrunnen which is approx 2 hours from Geneva airport.

Any urgent calls contact me on +44 7881 787 757

Thanks

Tim"

(23:58 GMT) Your money will be helping with the following:

- Organising rescue dogs; possibly to be sent from the UK
- Funding the deployment of rescue helicopters (this is the one we need your help for! The government won't fund this!!!)
- Help to continue to conduct a well-lead and organised search for our friend Dan

It's too early to tell where this is going, but we do need your support. We still have hope of finding him, or at least knowing what happened to him - but every search costs money.

Friends and volunteers are out there, and a few more will be traveling out there at their own expense.

Donation link if you can - or alternatively if you know anyone out in LB who would be willing to volunteer for S&R etc.

We have at least 10 more people who will be coming from other parts of Switzerland, Chamonix, Germany, France, and the UK.

The way basejumpers band together when one of their own is in need is one of the most remarkable aspects of the sport, and one that blows me away, everytime.

Good luck to all involved.

DONATION UPDATE!!!! We have just heard from our friends in Switzerland...

A massive THANK YOU TO ALL, approximately 25,000CHF (Swiss Francs) (£16,571) - has been spent so far on 6 helicopter lifts since Saturday. It has also been spent on the mountain guides and search dogs. We are all greatly appreciative of all your contributions. Without this, there would not be a search with the resources we had, and Dan would not have been found!

This is the statement in full that was released to the press.

In reply to:
Nabik Daniel Hunt, known as ‘Nabik’ or ‘Dan’ by close friends and family, was speedflying in Switzerland with two friends on Saturday 15th September. After a successful launch from the Jungfraujoch at a height of 11,333ft, he did not land back in Lauterbrunnen Valley as planned. Search and Rescue efforts began as soon as his companions realised that he was not behind them.

Since Saturday afternoon, Nabik’s companions helped the Swiss Search and Rescue and military to find their missing friend. When it was made apparent that Dan’s insurance was exhausted to cover the cost of the helicopter, an appeal was launched via Facebook for donations towards the rescue operations. The response has blown everyone away, many many thanks to all who supported this effort.

Tim Good, who was flying with Dan, constantly updated his family and friends with the progress of the search, and has been searching for Dan continuously since Saturday. The efforts to date included mountaineers scaling the glacier, paragliders searching over the forested area, search dogs, more people on foot, and speedflyers that re-flew the line to see where Dan might have gone down.

The operations today were focussed mainly on a concentrated area of the Gorge. At approximately 12:20 GMT (London) news was received Nabik (Dan) was found alive and well – sitting in a cave, at the bottom of the gorge 40ft wide and 150ft deep.

The rescuers, friends of Nabik, and four German Mountain Infrantry Officers, lowered themselves down into the gorge and secured him in a harness, pulling him to safety. Shortly after, a rescue helicopter then arrived to pick him up. He was taken to hospital to be assessed for injuries.

“He is in good spirits and is overwhelmingly fine”, said Nadeem Al-Khafaji, a close friend of Dan’s and one of the rescuers.

Nabik spoke to friends and family back in the UK. “I am so grateful, touched, and humbled by all the help…thank you from the bottom of my heart”. Mr and Mrs Hunt are overwhelmed with the support from friends, family and from the wider community. They are so grateful to everyone who donated their time, money and energies to help find Nabik.

The search and rescue team and Nabik are thrilled with the outcome of the efforts and support shown by everyone, but are emotionally and physically exhausted. In the UK, Kara de los Reyes and Lisa Carnie have been co-ordinating fundraising and volunteers to help with the search. Lisa said “without social media, we would not have had access to the vast resources we needed to find him.”

Yeah, I'm eager to hear that too, for now though he's recovering in hospital and probably needs a few days to get his own head around it all.

Latest update

In reply to:
Dan 'Nabik' is in good spirits. He did not have good sleep as he wasn't used to sleep anymore for a few days trying to stay awake and warm.

He has a fractured Tibia and some broken bones in his foot.
He has a minor lung infection and is getting some antibiotics and iv fluids, and his vital signs are still being monitored.

Today was a rest day and celebration day for all of us. Dan is finally recovering his ability to have a proper conversation. The hospital staff in Switzerland have been extremely professional in treating Dan with the best they could offer.

Dan is completely overwelmed by what so many friends and unknown people have done for him and really wants to thank everyone from the bottom of his heart... He is struggling to find words to express his gratitude to all those who joined the search and contributed funds.

Dan says that the most amazing thing he is trying to come to terms with is that it was his friends who finally found him after flying and driving over from England, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland to join the search. The local community of paragliders, speed flyers and other visiting flyers were extremely helpful volunteering to fly over the search area.

He is still recovering from conditions that are a result of being exposed to very low temperatures. He will stay in the hospital for the next few days until the doctors are happy he is 101% recovered.
