Apex Summit Container Pin Protector Flap
Watching this video, the pin protector flap of an Apex Summit gets pulled out/open during a wingsuit jump (at ~70s).

Does anyone know of any other instances of this happening on the Summit? What causes it? How to prevent it? Would stiffeners in the pin protector flap help?

My initial thought would be ensuring you have a short enough closing loop to not allow for the front side flap grommets to spread too far apart, thus exposing more of the pin protector flap. But, I could be wrong.

This reminded me of the video a few months back of the premature pin release during a wingsuit flight where the pin protector flap was released in the same way.

Re: [jpengel] Apex Summit Container Pin Protector Flap
I have personally seen backwards facing video of my buddies Summit doing the same thing, this may be something Apex needs to address.

It not a Summit. its a DP.

no, that's definitely a summit or TL style flap.

Re: [blitzkrieg] Apex Summit Container Pin Protector Flap
I have found if I dont have enough material above the top through loop it can have a sloppy fit. I think its a packing issue not a Apex issue.

I had this issue also on my summit when wingsuiting. I shortend the top closing loop quite a bit. Now its better :) The viewable width of the pin protector flap needs to be 1 inch or better less and the gromets should stay on top of each other.

Yes, we've seen this situation before. And yes you should be concerned.
Check out this video to see the proper closing loop length.

The fix can be done in one of two ways.
One is to shorten the loops considerably. In the video the top loop is simply too long. A long loop will allow the side flaps to set too far apart creating a gap that will allow high airspeeds to open the pin protector flap. Shortening the loop is the first place to start. Try to keep the side flaps within an inch or so when closed.
The second method requires a flap replacement. The Summit and TL containers are currently shipped with a versatile pin pro flap we call PPv2.1. For those who request a high airspeed flap we will install (or a rigger can install) the PPv2.2 flap. The PPv2.2 flap has a plastic stiffener across the top of the flap. We have installed this flap on rigs that will be dedicated to high airspeed. The PPv2.2 has been used in airspeed that exceeds 130 mph without any movement.
A few of the original Summit and TL containers were shipped with a pin pro flap PPv2.0. They can be identified because they do not include a layer of foam stiffener in the flap. Version PPv2.1 will have a layer of foam built into the pin pro flap to provide a flexible layer of stiffness. Version PPv2.2 has a plastic stiffener across the top of the flap.
