Camping in Lauterbrunnen?
Stayed at the Horner last year and loved it, but gonna try to save some cash by camping for a while this year. Does anyone have suggestions as to which sites are cheapest, etc?

Thanks

Re: [stewb] Camping in Lauterbrunnen?
I stayed at schutzenbahnen kämping this winter and found it super-cheap. They don't like campervans/RV's because of children playing, but tents and towables are good. and they have pretty cheap "cabins" as well :) good place and friendly staff!

Thanks! I'll check that one out. I'm not a fan of RVs or kids myself so it sounds good!

Cool! The locals there have followed basejumping for many years, so even if they're not jumpers please listen to their advice about wind and objects and canopy flight. The friendly locals will appreciate it if you try not to go in right over the cemetery while there's a funeral :)

Don't stay at Camping Jungfrau. Its over priced and some of the staff there have a real attitude problem. Chalet Im Rohr is where it is at. Elsbeth and Hans are the best!

Thanks for the Beta. I'll check into that one as well. And -rm, I'll definitely respect the locals and local protocols.

So does Chalet Im Rohr actually have a camping area? Everything I could find online about it suggested that it was more of a hotel.

It is a hotel (no camping area) but on Lauterbrunnen standards it is a very affordable one. And also Elsbet an Johnny are super nice people. Go to Rohr and you will not be disappointed.

The primary advantage of the chalet is it has two indoor packing areas. It costs 3 franc more than camping Jungfrau and you have full facilities, including free wifi.

Yep, Schutzenbach camping is cheaper than Jungfrau camping, but experience says the customer service leaves a bit to be desired. To say the least. Oh, and it costs half a franc for 3 minutes of hot water in the showers.

There is also another camping a bit further down the valley, probably about halfway between town and the Schilthornbahn Cablecar.

(If you want to go supercheap then there's one past the cablecar in Stechelberg, but ts a hell of a walk home from the Horner...)

The Im Rohr is your best bet for town - worth a few extra chf for the packing areas and a proper bed! For the BASE Race I think camping is possible at the BASE House...? But check with Johnny...
