New UK specific First Jump Course.
Ok Ladies and Gentlemen, Finally a UK specific FJC, that is more than just a FJC.
We are going to stick our heads above the parapet (all your snipers, doubter and whingers, now is the time to take aim) and run a first jumps course with follow on mentorship when you return to the UK.
Who we are.
Dan The Man, 12 years BASE experience consisting of 1200+ BASE jumps from over 350 objects including 140 different building. Star of TV, newspaper and Just For Men adverts, DTM is the main “instructor” and is based in the South of England.
Mac McAuliffe 6+ years of BASE, star of BBC’s Top Gear, ex Red Devils team leader and experienced Morris dancer, with 3000+ Skydives, 250+ BASE jumps from over 120 objects and years of experience coaching various sports to a very high level, Mac will assist DTM in the South.
Jools, (the quiet one of the three with an irrational fear of sliders) has 300+ BASE jumps from nearly 200 objects in the past 6+ years, Based in Blackpool, Jools will look after any Northern Monkeys.
What you need
We are not going to waste our time with a McBASE jumper who simply wants turn up and have everything handed to them on a plate.
You must have:
A good attitude, sorry but this will probably exclude the majority of gingers!
A minimum of 300 skydives to even be considered. We will request log book’s and quite possibly phone your CCI if we don’t personally know someone who can vouch for you.
We will expect knowledge of parachutes and rigging in general, so if you do not know your C lines from your kill line, then you have no chance. We will also want to see a basic knowledge of BASE equipment and why we use certain pieces of equipment such as a tailgate, mesh slider etc, so do your homework before applying.
You must know where the bar is and how to get served quickly if it is busy.
You must have thick skin because we will take the piss out of you, so all you delicate little flowers might as well stop reading.
What you will get
Before we travel abroad to jump you will be taught how to pack plus a few other essential skills.
You will be given manuals including free fall charts, PC charts, packing guide etc.
We will accompany you to a DZ (Probably Cark for the northern jumpers and Sibson for the shandy drinkers). You will be expected to land your own sky diving parachute to within 10m of a target on the first attempt (YES even if it is windy or a nil wind day). Land using only riser’s at least once.
You will then jump a BASE canopy in a Sky Diving container and be given a couple of basic canopy exercises to perform.
Once you have demonstrated you can land a parachute without scaring the sh*t out of us, pack a BASE rig and have absorbed the basic knowledge required we will take a maximum of 5 jumpers to France.
We have several rigs ranging from 240-305sqft for you to use while in France but would prefer you to have your own if available.
We will start at probably the easiest jump in Europe.
Once you have proven to us you are not a total muppet we will take you to a variety of bridges, (and depending on your skill/progression) cliffs and wind turbines.
Generally we will look to do 10-15 jumps over 4 days from as many objects as we think you can handle and at your pace. These will include PCA’s, hand held, stowed, static line jumps, and if you are super good you might even get a slider up S. With 3 instructors to 5 students, splitting the group is an easy option. All jumps will be filmed from the top and bottom and will be debriefed after you get the beers in.
Please note, We are not in the habit of roughing it and we will be staying in half decent (3*ish) hotels and eating properly. If we get a 4 or 5 millionaires we won’t object to 5* hotels and top restaurants.
If you are a smelly student, DZ bum, or a cheapskate on a budget then sorry but this course is not for you. You will be expected to contribute to the cost of hire cars, fuel and pay for your own hotels and food. Pretty girls can share rooms with “instructors” FOC, ugly ones will need their own rooms or share with others on the course.
On returning to the UK we will expect you to behave in an ethical way and will continue to jump with you as long as you need/want us to. We will teach you site analysis including weather conditions, entry techniques, media whoring and general attention seeking skills. All instructors are past masters in all these areas.
We will also be on hand to answer all the stupid questions you can think of regarding BASE or the meaning of life while you work towards jumping from all four types of objects so you can apply for your BASE number if you choose to.
Please note, if at anytime we think your are
A) Unsafe.
B) A tit.
C) Not cut out for BASE.
D) Have poor personal hygiene.
You will be told and we will not take you/bin you from the course.
