Wingsuit Speedwing?
So, I've recently been attracted to Speedflying and have been watching a lot of videos about it. (Guilty youtube junkie) In doing so i've been more and more impressed with the lines that are being flown.

This got me thinking. Would it be possible to somehow design a hybrid between a speedwing and a wingsuit? I will reference this video:

Now obviously this was launched from an aircraft, but would it be possible to.. lets say kite this small canopy at an exit and jump, rollover, or design a new type of container that you could static line this canopy and then fly a wingsuit line. Once you are at your "pull" altitude cut the wing away which then would deploy your base canopy for landing purposes. (Need to be re-designed, but think skyhook).

Why build such a thing instead of just flying a wingsuit? Why not? I know quite a few very good canopy pilots who simply don't fly wingsuits because they don't want to. If anything it could just be another side to the sport... or maybe it's a completely dumb idea.

Thoughts??

You do understand just how squirrely that canopy was or would be? It ended up killing Chris.

No question about it.. it would be very twitchy and not easy to fly... but the whole "Speedwing BASE Wingsuit WRX" project proved that it COULD be done.. and repeated.

I don't know much about the project, but I do believe that at the time that was the smallest speedwing that was produced by the company (specially for the project I think). The wing was even ground launched and landed. I just wondered how feasible it wold be to produce something relatively (I use that world loosely) stable, but close to equally as fast as a WS. So fast that it would be unable to land safely and hence the need for a BASE or other type of canopy.

I guess i'm blending the lines between BASE/Speedflying in this discussion, but I'm interested in "exiting" in a jump of sorts and then flying and deploying another canopy so I figured I would post it here.

How is this different from flying normal speed flying wing? Except for cutaway? I don't know much about those wings but I'd guess you can fly wingsuit lines with them. Or???

Or is the point just to downsize the wing as much as possible to get the speed?

Re: [skow] Wingsuit Speedwing?
Yeah.. was just thinking downsizing to gain the speed and a similar glide ratio.

just buy the smallest possble wing and take few tens of kilos of lead. Should work fine :)

if you want to take the time, talk to the guys at flystyle

they know their shit and can sort you out with a proper harness/cutaway system.
