General conciseness among BASE jumping.
When one turns to BASE jumping what is the general conciseness as to what "level" they should be at?

I understand what a perfect scenario would be (to a point... each step higher LOOKS better) but obviously regular jumps are needed. Especially for control on low jumps. A good mentor would be awesome.... it would quite possibly end up being a partner.

I'm just curious, Since I am in the "General" area... describe your entry level person and PLEASE, try not to be biased or jaded. ;)

I don't get it...
No matter where you start, it is level one for you, right?

Starting with slider up or slider down jumps?

In either case, someone who has good judgment as to situations that are potentially very dangerous and life threatening, and how to approach and handle them.

Someone who is open minded enough to research the sport and seek knowledge both as a beginner and as a continuing jumper throughout their BASE career.

Someone who has worked through and mastered all the canopy skills covered by the attached drill worksheet.

For starting slider up, someone who has, additionally, focused effort and training on tracking skills so that their tracking ability is substantially above the average for skydivers.

Judgement and approach are paramount. Skills can be taught (and learned) but even the most gifted instructor or mentor cannot fix stupid.

Thank you TomAiello for a proper response. I was/am still new to the forums here. Usually I just meet people about. The rude comments are no good guys. I posted a question... suppose I were the public media. Don't give the sport that reputation.

Thanks...

If you smelled like media you REALLY wouldn't have liked the likely responses.

I am just rereading and noticing now, auto correct did as well here as my "smart phone" corrects emails and texts. Yes, general consensus. Thank you for pointing that out FreeFallFiend.

In all I was just looking for an online community who wasn't, as I said, biased or jaded. Many seem to be just that. I'll stick to the people I know on a personal level. Thanks!

I thought every response you received was honest sir.
If by biased or jaded you mean we don't encourage everybody that passes thru this internet site to risk his/her life or body in our beloved sport, then you are corrected.
Maybe you should read all posts again to make sure. You may even find other helpful information relating to your interest in the many other discussions on this site.
But at the end of the day i feel the general consensus on here may be that you do not have the right attitude. Are you sir prepared for that? Pirate

LOL... if you think the folks on this thread have been too rough on you, you are way too much of a wussie to be a skydiver, much less a BASE jumper.

Sack up first, then get enough skydives to know if you have the right stuff to go deeper down the rabbit hole. If you do, go for it; if you don't, go for it anyway -- the "community" will at least extract a few $$$ from you and, as Tree says, the video's great either way.

Start by doing lots of kegel exercises so your bunghole gets nice and strong and you don't shit your pants on opening shock.
