Valery Rozov base jump from Ushba 4300m!
On July 6th Russian climber and B.A.S.E. jumper Valery Rozov completed an iconic jump from Ushba Mountain in Svaneti, Georgia - the symbol of Svaneti and one of the most beautiful mountains in Caucasus. This was the first ever B.A.S.E. Jump in big mounts of Georgian Caucasus. SVANETI (Georgia) The 8-day expedition started on June 29th, when Valery Rozov and his climbing partners Alexander Ruchkin, Oleg Khvostenko (Russia), photographer Thomas Senf (Switzerland) and videographer Nika Lebanidze (Georgia) reached the Base Camp from Mestia, the regional center of Svaneti region.
After 2-day ascent to the southern top of picturesque Ushba mountain, which is considered by many climbers as the most spectacular, but also as the most difficult and dangerous ascent in Caucasus, Rozov found a perfect spot for take-off at 4300 m.
At 06:30 on 6 July as soon as the weather conditions were good enough, Valery Rozov completed his very first B.A.S.E. Jump in Georgian Caucasus with his wingsuit. Rozov landed safely at 2950 m further down on the glacier after 65 seconds of flight in freefall hitting the speed of 200 km/h. Total elevation for wingsuit flight was 1350m.
„It has always been my dream to climb "Matterhorn of the Caucasus" - Ushba mountain and do the very first B.A.S.E Jump from its top. This is my first project in Georgia and I am very happy that despite of all difficulties along my way, mostly by reasons of unbelievably heavy weather conditions, I accomplished the jump successfully. It was a great experience to discover the mystic and stern-looking mountain of Ushba” – commented the two-time skydiving world champion and extreme sport pro. Rozov received World wide media coverage a month ago, when he was setting a new world record, when he jumped of the 6500 meter high Shivling in the Indian part of the Himalaya.
