Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any public transport (preferably overnight) from (around) Elsinore to (around) Moab? I'm trying to avoid a 12 hours drive and instead have a nice sleep during it.
I live in the uk so don't know much about stuff in the US and google is not being helpful.

try greyhound bus... it will be a long trip on a bus, but at least you could sleep.... probably will go from LA to Salt Lake...

If you want to fly and rent a car check out allegiant air. They are a cheap carrier that flys into Grand Junction, CO which is about 1.5 hrs drive from Moab. They use smaller airports so look at Orange Co./Burbank/Ontario etc. Im sure you could get RT airfare and rental for sub 300$ May even luck out and have some jumpers passing thru GJ to grab a ride with.

It will be more peaceful and restful to just get in your car at Elsinore and drive because:

a) it's more like 10 hours driving, not 12
b) you will spend essentially the same amount of time and money trying to fly/bus your way there
c) you won't have to deal with airplane reservations
d) you won't have to deal with rental car reservations
e) you won't have to deal with transportation to the airport or bus station
f) you won't have to deal with TSA sexual perverts
g) you won't have to deal with changing everything and spending more money if you decide to stay longer
h) you won't have to deal with whuffos messing with your gear

Greyhound sucks, the closest official stop to Moab is Green River, Ut. (80miles). You will meet the lowest order of the dregs of humanity, I once took it and we had to stop twice for medical assistance for passengers, there were syringes rolling around the floor and a stop searching for wanted felons in Vegas. You would need to be heavily medicated to sleep comfortably.
Public Transportation in that part of the USA is not easy. your # 1 best option is to fly into Moab (Canyonlands field), but it is also the most expensive. You could contact Skydive Moab (Keith), and see if they are operating that day and if you could catch a ride the 17 miles into town.
Ideally you could fly into Grand Junction, Co. and rent a car. Also Salt Lake City, Ut. and rent a car.
It all depends on your Budget and available time to travel, and how much time you want to spend there. Once there you will need your own transportation or local connections. I recommend that you contact Mario or Steph at Moab BASE adventures.
If you are trying to get there as inexpensively as possible, try to connect with jumpers using BJ.com forum, or the local Moab radio station ride board,(google it ).
If this is your first visit you will save a lot of frustration by making some local connections, but Moab is a very unique and wonderful environment if you can put it all together. Enjoy yourself,

PS. There is a Limo/Ride service that operates from Moab to Grand Jct, Colo, Green River, Ut, Price, Ut. and Salt Lake City, actually there might be two services or there might be none? but they were operating last year. If you are not flying into Canyonlands (Moab), then I would recomend going to Junction and trying to score a ride with Jumpers via previous arrangements through ride boards. yeah Bro, I guess, in short, what I was trying to say was what you were looking for doesn't exist, and what Robin said, renting a car and driving is as good an option as any from Elsinore.
