Learning BASE in Midwest?
Hello,

I'm still very new to skydiving, but got into the sport with BASE as my end goal. I started skydiving in September 2011. I'm up to a mere 77 jumps so far. But I plan to have 200 by July.

As I am becoming more experienced, I would like to be thinking about BASE a little more. To start, I am wondering if there is much of a BASE scene in the midwest. I imagine not, since we probably don't have many objects to jump.

Does anybody have some advice on learning around here? Are there people I can talk to in the area? I jump primarily at Skydive Chicago.

Thanks!

Adam

"I'm still very new to skydiving".......then you should be on a different website, it's called dropzone.com

"but got into the sport with BASE as my end goal".........why? skydiving is fun as hell enjoy it.

"But I plan to have 200 by July.".........so what does that mean? When you hit 200 mere skydives your ready to BASE jump??? Having a set # of SD doesn't mean shit. There are skydivers out there w/ 1000s of jumps who still could not sink a canopy into a 12x12ft area on top of a parking garage (even w/ thousands of ft of altitude).

"To start, I am wondering if there is much of a BASE scene in the midwest".......hang out at DZs long enough and you'll find out.

"I imagine not, since we probably don't have many objects to jump."........you'd be supprised young jedi. Stop saying "we" as to include yourself. YOU dont have ANY objects!!

"Are there people I can talk to in the area?".......Why dont you trying talking to people to find out if there are people to talk to?? Just a thoughtUnsure

Bottom line: you should have looked up the 117,328 posts from wanna b's just like you that posted the same fucking questions!!!Crazy Now get back to the DZ!!

I'm not convinced anyone reading your original post will feel like you've tried very hard. those that DO try hard earn a lot more respect, and will receive a warmer welcome.

I'll lock this thread to prevent the conversation from degrading, as they typically do.

if you have any questions, or feel I am wrong, just PM me!

I recommend 2 things...
- while you are here, READ
- while you are at SDC, diligently develop your skill set. develop a reputation as a heads-up, aware, and conscientious jumper. take a strong interest in rigging and get to know the riggers. do NOT lead with your desire to BASE. if you appear safe, knowledgeable, teachable, and able to keep secrets, most likely you will find BASE jumpers (if they jump at one of the largest dz's in the country).

to give you time, I'll lock this thread (just like the other one). good luck.
