Security and jumping.
Had a meeting last nite with a business/friend asking me to join a business endeavor. Long story short is the technology is here and cheap enough that remote camera can now be placed ANYWHERE and report INSTANTLY......

This is kind of scary....mark my word soon we will lose LOTS of great spots.... OOOOh shit its coming!!!!!

Would you hit an object if you knew once you are on the location you only have so long until someone show up...

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
On objects that I thought might have high security sensors, cameras, etc.. I would sometimes access the object with the intention NOT to jump but to set off the alarms and see what happened.

On an antenna for instance I once climbed the parameter fence walked all around the building and then climbed about 20' up the ladder and then ran back out of the compound. Went a short distance away and hid in the woods to see what would happen.

Best of luck to your buddy.. but hopefully nobody will invest. Tongue

The money is already there.

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
cameras at remote locations can be activated by wildlife.

this can make real-time monitoring expensive. local LEO's would probably object to being sent out automatically when the "culprit" may be a bird.

thus, I'm not convinced the cameras are the issue. it is how they will be implemented.

LOL and it can be determined in an instant (with out people)....I dont think anyone realizes the gravity of this movement.

Re: [wwarped] Security and jumping.
As a for instance. We sat in the bar and he pulled up a camera that is 300 miles way that had a "event" marked by the computer and was a "subject" under a tree in remote area.(this is a 150,000 acre ranch) Picture was taken at nite 70 feet away in pitch darkness. As a security consultant for the last 18 years this makes me very nervous.

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
I watched a show on Discovery channel about people who prepare for the world to end and build under ground bunkers to live in. They were using something very similar to what you describe.....crazy stuff.

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
went to a new A to scope it out and near the base was a camera pointing and it had a flashing red light. Got the heck outta dodge. Owners are out of state but, so I don't know where management comes from exactly or if it was recording or not

I think almost all the cameras on As like that are recording only and not being monitored live. This means that if nothing happens (stuff stolen/ shit broken /etc), then the footage never gets watched. These usually record for a certain window of time before deleting old footage (ex. only would have access to past week of footage). The risks to antennas and things like that are usually very low and due to copper/etc theifs so this method works well for what they use it for, but for BASE jumpers it really doesn't do anything. If you wanted to be doubly safe, wear a mask, go in front of the camera...dance about...rattle the fences a little and then leave but when you do leave behind something that would let you know if a person entered or exited the building that houses the camera equipment. If it hasn't been tripped then you know that you really don't have much to worry about, although you might still want to wear a mask going by the camera in case something happened and they knew about the BASE jump and might review the footage. And also, obviously, leave no trace.

-just my newbie $0.02 ---I've walked right in front of and done illegal things in front of very very many cameras like that without issue...and a family member has experience installing surveillance systems for local businesses/city/police (I think)/etc and many of them work the same way.

I guess what i am sayin... Those thoughts are true for current technology. This will change FAST. Less then 200 for a camera you can place anywhere and it know the difference between cow, cars, people, mice and leaves.. And can report each as such... Remotely to your phone with video.

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
Sorry to rain on the parade, but that technology has been around for a few years. It's getting cheaper, but it's been available, and mandatory in many industries for a while...... think Casino's and Gov't monitored entities..... or if you really wanna see something..... check out the camera rules and regs for Colorado MMJ....Psycho....

As far as jumping in front of cameras...... it's been going on for quite a while now...
Shortcut
Re: [basehoundsam] Security and jumping.
This is far superior to stupid video watching a pot crop thats piped into the state of colorado or casinos. So keep jumping infront of cameras just make sure u know there will be a huge differnce soon.

Ps this technology is not out there... Or i wouldnt be part of a50 million dollar buiness.

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
Really,
Why don't you explain what is sooo revolutionary ? IP cameras?? Auto-detect and object identification? looking at it on your phone??? Alerts and markers??? What revolutionary video company do you work for ? Because the rest of us would love to google this state of the art company to look into it ourselves.... as my buddy wiped out his cell phone and blew my mind pretty much says nothing.....
As far as jumping in camera views, I'll keep doing my thing...... you just worry about yourself over there.

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and accept you have access to amazing new, and cheap, technology. companies will want to install these everywhere. fine.

BUT
responding to each call is NOT inexpensive. (paying someone to monitor all those cameras will not be cheap either. if the warning gets sent to someone's phone, will they know who to call?) teenagers climb those things as well. I'd expect there could be a lot of "false positives." i.e. an alert that fails to end in damage or loss of service. how many cops want to hurry out to a remote location to find a stoned teenager?

Funny
I try and help out the brothern...

Im told its already there... then you want the info of my company (not gonna happen till AFTER its sold)

Then told to worry about myself over here..... NO problem.

Wwarped you hit the nail on the head...

Re: [wwarped] Security and jumping.
The auto detection is 95 percent correct- next to no monitoring..

Plus you can monitor your own sites. So you could be faced with an owner not a cop... hope you dont live in Florida...

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
maybe then, you should help out by posting who has the technology when the business is actually sold. until then, it's just hearsay. no sense in stirring up the pot before.

any technology that is built, can also easily be beaten. it doesn't concern me in the least.

i work in a trillion dollar business hunting humans. web cameras? ha! small fries! Tongue

Re: [blitzkrieg] Security and jumping.
I will post when sold.

Ps these cameras are currently hunting humans and doing a DAMN fine job.

Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
I was busted on a power tower last year by one of these cameras. It has a PIR sensor that triggers a notification in a centralised remote location monitored by a private security firm. No need for anyone to be watching the screen 24/7, Police were notified and arrived within 10 mins, makes the jumps a bit more difficult as now you must climb the outside of the legs to avoid the camera, but jump is still open if you avoid the first part of the ladder. This type of camera has been around for ages.

Re: [matt002] Security and jumping.
Could you see the camera?
Shortcut
Re: [Huck] Security and jumping.
Not the first time, that particular jump is only on at night and had been jumped continuously for about 20 years before the power company decided to take action

Seems like this is all just a natural process of evolution. Gotta accept the fact that as things like property accumulate more relative value, technology gets cheaper relative the costs of a potential loss, and computers are better able to distinguish monitor and distinguish between false positives that things are gonna be a bit different. Really though, just keep an eye out for what's going on in your local areas and tighten your procedures a bit when necessary and I don't see it as game changer at all. We just might have to be a bit more heads up about our techniques.

Now when it really gets interesting is when the government decides to implant all of us with those trackable RFI chips and monitor our locations at all times combined with all of those cool biometrics and facial recognition devices...regardless though, I'm sure most of us will keep jumping off stuff...

Also, keep in mind that as that technology develops, so will our access to more advanced technology. As long as BASE has at least a small community of tech-savy and creative people, there will probably always be ways around these things.
