Four or five years ago I gave several blood samples at Bridge Day for what I thought was a study to find what B.A.S.E. jumpers had or didn't have that made them what or who they are.

Though I never did receive any results from those tests I am fairly sure there is a three year old in wherethefuckistan jumping off a couch with a diaper full of poo that looks just like me.

If they would have asked for blood, urine, seamen and stool samples I could have just handed them a pair of my undies.

I like to talk about BASE jumping and where it fits into my life. Its a shit ton of fun, the people are pretty rad when you get them away from their computer, and I like feeling scared knowing that I have trust my ability to perform the needed before and during operations. I don't know what blood samples and DNA testing has to do with it, nor am I interested in talking about what role the psychology of the brain plays into it. If a kid want to write a paper on BASE jumping, I don't mind helping him out a bit. I used to write papers on skiing. If I had a forum to ask pro skiers why they huck shit on skis, or what they feel like when they step out f a heli and onto a ridge in AK, and "fuck you" would have been the response, I would have been happy to write about how they were all Seth Morrison's. But not every BASE jumper is jaded so I don't get why they all feel the need to act as if they are.

many attempts have been made. many an interview has been given. all too often, the jumper regrets helping. they have their words twisted and they the suffer from a misrepresentation.

somethings are simply best experienced, rather than discussed. we all make our own choices, for our own reasons. no two people are alike.

some dream of writing a novel.

I was just messing with the OP when I said we've banned all essays, studies, and papers. Let's face it, as BASE jumpers we get tons of these requests from society's wannabees. As BD organizer, I get inundated with this stuff every year. Rarely do I ever get a copy of the essay/paper and it makes me feel a bit used.

We need a repository of term papers, essays, and studies that we could direct these young wannabes to and avoid the typical "what do your parents think of what you do" type questions!

If the OP is still reading this, shoot me an email with your questions and I'll help you out. He ended up deleting his post before I could tell him we're just kidding.

PS. Regarding the BD blood/saliva sample, I inquired about the results a few years ago and they were "still working" on it. The guy doing the study (Omer Meidan from Israel) is a BASE jumper. I would love to know the results as well. Omer?
