I think Jason is an awesome guy, but do you you really value his post and/or this thread over the post from an extremely experienced jumper who was actually there and is probably more familiar with that site than anyone?

Did you also know that most journalists can count to potato? I even heard of the one that counted as far as jello. He had the smart.

It was a 180 with line twists. He's an experienced and super heads up jumper. The winds were perfect but this was a shit happens moment which turned out really well in the end.

SAR did an awesome job of getting to him and the officer doing the press release was misquoted in every article I have seen so far. Haha, I spent some time talking to the SAR guys and they rescue hikers and climbers out there pretty much every week.

I have jumped that site twice. It scared me as bad as I've ever been scared. 180 with line twists is my biggest fear. I am glad that this individual made it out of a deadly situation. Were there any injuries?

Re: [hikeat] Stuck on a ledge on CNN
I watched the interview afterwards, he seemed perfectly fine, scared the shit out of himself, but no physical injury. I've done a few skydives with him and was always very knowledgeable, and had a lot of experience. I'm sure if it could happen to him it could happen to anyone.

Re: [blitzkrieg] Stuck on a ledge on CNN

Anyone else see fox news this AM?

Stuck on a ledge on CNN
This was on Drop Zone as well. I made a comment about stupid base jumpers and got mildly flamed for it Smile

I haven't looked at any of the interviews so I don't know what was said, but what a stroke of luck to land safely in the middle of the cliff.

Interview is here

Even after being corrected they still called the clip "backwards parachute". Stupid.

Let's get this straight :

A guy who has never jumped in AZ, nor has never been to the object (and obviously wasn't present during the accident) all with a grand total of ONE Cliff jump.

"It's exhilarating. There's nothing in the world like standing on the edge and knowing that it might be the last thing you ever do on the planet".

Way to do good for the image of the jumpers !

Let's not forget that other much more local and much more experienced jumpers were witnesses for this event, and yet they are not the ones on FOX news.

And what the fuck is with the SIRing ???

Oh and while I am on a roll - what exactly is SKY-FROGS.COM and what services does it provide ?

bleah, another person who just wants their name on the news.

Spot on.
Talking to the media is counter productive.

awwh so i was right. is that interview online yet? anyone have a link?

Edit: whoops missed it up thread a cpl posts. my bad.
Shortcut
Meh, who cares.
They were going to find someone to interview. They coulda shoulda woulda with the locals, but they didn't. At least he tried to explain what really happened.

Back to what really matters, I'm so glad this story ended well for that jumper.. Awesome, dude! I hate hearing about fatalities. So it's nice to hear about an incident that probably should've resulted in one, but didn't.

I've been trying to imagine the turn of events that even made this possible but simply can not get my head around it.
Tom, What the fuck was your thought process here?

I don't see any harm done.

When the people at Fox put in their order for a BASE jumper to interview they probably wanted a drooling psychopath with an arrest record.

Instead, they got someone who was sober, polite, respectful, and even wore a clean shirt and a tie. And he didn't come off as a narcissist, lunatic, or sociopath.

BASE community: 1, Fox: 0

Nope. No disrespect intended toward your drooling, your psychosis, or your arrest record, but you just don't look the part.

I'm envious of that. You opened the trunk of your car, showed a LEO your BASE gear, and pointed to the tower you were going to jump. The LEO sent you on your merry way.

I'm not sure exactly what would have happened if if I had tried that but I'm pretty sure he would not have sent me on my merry way to jump the tower.
