having a hard time finding much BASE jumping in FL, thought maybe you guys could help

How about introducing yourself and giving details about any previous parachute experience?

Hey mate, welcome to the forums. You have come to exactly the right place to start your adventures. Basejumping is extremely easy getting into and does not take any previous knowledge to execute, you only need a parachute and somewhere to jump from. For getting a parachute I would recommend contacting a parachute-school near you and ask them to sell or give you an old used parachute. To avoid stupid questions tell them you are using the fabric to sew clothes or something. Make certain that the parachute has got no big holes in it and that not more than 3 or 4 lines are broken. If the lines you steer the parachute with are broken you might want to tie them back together because if you cant steer you risk scratching the paint off of cars and stuff and that can get really expensive. Since you will only be jumping from low heights the quality of the parachute is not very important. After getting the parachute you only need somewhere to jump from. If you live on or above the 5th floor I suggest starting from there. After 2 or 3 jumps you want to try jumping from somewhere higher. However, since its obviusly more dangerous the higher you get do not increase the height more than 10 meters inbetween each jump. I also recommend not jumping with a wingsuit until you have reached at least 200 meters. To be on the safe side most people dont jump their wingsuits until they reach 300 meters but personally I think that is beeing a bit over-cautious, and also, who in their right mind would want to grind through 20 or more regular jumps before starting with the wingsuit? Hi im Jermaine Johnson I have no BASE experience yet but I bought a parachute at a garage sale yesterday and im looking for a good cliff in florida to go make my first BASE jump at. Im not trying to do any skydiving or anything like that just base and wing suit.

Any tips for my first dive? Also if anyone knows a good place in florida let me know id love to go do some jumps this weekend cant wait to get started

THanks man sounds like some awesome advice, but wouldnt a parachute with broken strings be dangerous? is tying them back together really good enough? O well doesnt matter the one i got at the garage sale doesnt have any holes or broken strings thank god but its a little smaller than i imagined parachutes being but im sure it will work fine

Oh and for god's sake man, (I don't know how anyone forgot) you NEED to have a GoPro for this jump. Try and make it into something like a 10min documentary. It IS your first jump. Really a milestone in your life. Even skydivers do this.. Except that for them it's an expensive option.. DIY FTW. Probably should bring all your friends down below too to watch. I mean it's not every day one gets to see a friend take his or her first leap to stardom either. They can also retrieve the footage should anything (highly unlikely though) go awry.

No need to worry about broken lines or size of parachute now since you are just jumping from low heights in the beginning. When you have reached 500 - 600 meters (according to the above progression formula) its starting to get a bit dangerous (not a lot though) and then you might want to start look for a higher quality parachute.

I can't believe no one has said it...your first jump needs to be under a round canopy.

its preferred to go alone on your first. make sure you dont tell anyone where you are or what you are doing.

And when you go on a trackingjump.
Don't forget the Tracking protection.

I wouldn't recommend it. Who will film the glory from the ground if you are by yourself? I wouldn't take any other base jumpers with you but I would definitely find the loudest bar skanks that you can and issue them cameras. Given that you're from Florida a mother/daughter barfly team can't be that hard to recruit.

Also, don't stop with the GoPro. Mount a Contour and a Sony on a helmet along with it. With your technical knowledge a post flight comparison of camera quality would be the contribution you need to raise yourself to the highest level of BASE.

im pretty sure you can die from as low as 300 meters but im no expert obviously, is it really that safe as long as its lower than 500?

Supersick first jump (if you have GoPro vid) AND you can land on a boat to make your getaway.... Felix Baumgartner would be super jealous of your high profile first jump.

Don't worry about the condition of your parachute...you could always just land in the water.
