Re: [lama07] Newbie Jumper / Crew
I think that the best way to deal with these standard types of newbies would be "No research, no help."
As 460 once said "Slop in one area tends to propagate to other areas".
Just my opinion. What do you think?
It would be nice if we just continue this discussion on this thread and ignore the "worse than newbie" but whatever.
Take care,
space

Hey Space....That sounds a bit harsh... If that were the case there would be no new jumpers as they would have died trying or not felt confident enough due to lack of info regarding wind speed/direction, type of gear to use and opening times?....
Dont you not want new jumpers?

Lama07

Actually what you are saying is exactly what we want. Think of it like Darwinism. Whiny bitches can quit due to their lack of confidence -> that's due to lack of knowledge -> that's due to their piss poor research skills and/or desire to take shortcuts. Those of the whiny bitches that are too dumb to quit, go in. Win-win.

no, we don't want the type of jumpers whose only method of research is to ask for handouts on the internet.

BTW, this is me begin civil

No body is asking for handouts... With the invention of the internet it gives people greater access to information that they would not have had through other means.

If you are a jumper, which i'm sure your not you would give sound advice not b/s....

Just looking for positive info on this thread sorry....

Move on Bro....

You have a bit of a contradiction in your statement.
re : "With the invention of the internet it gives people greater access to information that they would not have had through other means"

Access to INFORMATION is right here. In the articles. In the forum posts. The Beginners forum has a number of stickies at the top. One is "READ BEFORE POSTING", here's a link : http://www.basejumper.com/...;;page=unread#unread

What you came here for is an interactive help session, and that is NOT a way to prove to others that you are self sufficient enough to tie your own shoes, which is one of many prerequisites to parachute jumping.

Breathe deeply, calm down, and proceed with caution. You are not going to endear yourself with this group by telling experienced jumpers on this forum that they probably don't even jump. You are going to receive a resounding and unequivocal "Fuck you!".

We communicate not only through our words, but also through our actions. You may not have typed the words, "Please give me a handout." But you did amble onto an information-rich forum and then type a mindless "whats [sic] first step" without realizing all the first steps are well-documented on this forum already. So you did ask for a handout, through your laziness.

And if you're too lazy to search on a forum, I don't want you on my crew. Because when I'm dangling precariously by two suspension lines from an appurtenance, I doubt you'll have the enthusiasm or wherewithal to come to my assistance. Dig?

it seems the US educational system continues generating youth who never discovered how to learn, preferring to be taught.

knowing how to learn and problem solve greatly enhances the survival rate in BASE. you can't blaze any new trails if you need to ask, "which way?" true, wannabees are not prepared to trail blaze, but is it too much to ask that you read the posted signs?

I Dig
To: seekfun

Very well put sir, I agree completely.

I think most jumpers would prefer to BASE
(or any other illegal/life threatening activity)
with friend(s) they like/respect, who have a
lot of jumps/experience, who are in good
physical condition, smart, and so on...
because it is more fun, less work/hassle,
and lower chance of arrest/injury/death.

Those qualities require effort and sweat!

Yes, our education system is broken in many
places... students are lazy, parents are absent,
and administration is too scared for tough love.

Re: [GreenMachine] I Dig
As a total noob, I just wanted to say thank you for all the info on this forum. At times it seems to be endless, and alot confusing at times. That's why I know I'm not ready to make my 1st jump yet. But hope to jump with some of ya in a yr (more like a few). Anyone looking for a groundy in the area of harveys lake,Pa?

Re: [Lama07] How hard could it be?
I started an account so I can learn to BASE jump online...

It's easy. Jump, throw, and float safely to the ground. Just like youtube.

Re: [OuttaBounZ] How hard could it be?
Nope, just taken in the advise on safety. I'm going to have my fun in skydiving first. Taken in some canopy classes. After a few hundred jumps, then think about base. For know, I read these forums just to learn some safety issues, read about the gear. And yes, I'm also on dropzone.com's forum reading there also ( just in the noble and safety sections).

Re: [Sgtdie] I Dig
Yeah? Well I just want to say fuck this forum! Aside from the stickies it's cluttered with HI Smile *assume the position* threads. Basejumper is great but everything I've researched has come from articles, general, or technical. This beginner forum is a whuffo magnet and serves as entertainment for people bored at work. Like ME!
