Essential gear
I do not want to sound dumb or anything, but I want to know what the best and essential gear is for me to start base jumping this year. I also want to know what the each individual piece of gear is used for, besides the protective gear.

Learning base is best done through mentoring. In other words, if you want to stay safe and unbroken your best bet is to go through a sort of apprenticeship, where all this stuff will be explained in great detail. Not going that route is hazardous, to say the least.

Reading between the lines of your post, I get the impression that you have zero parachuting experience. That is something you *must* have before getting into BASE and you get it by learning to skydive.

How about posting something about yourself, including any parachute experience you have?

I don't think we're allowed to ask questions about toggles anymore.
Shortcut
Re: [seekfun] Thats what I'm trying to figure out!
What if we call them yonkles?
Shortcut
Re: [ineed2fly] Thats what I'm trying to figure out!
"colorado" toggles are toggles that are specially made, big-grab style, but then served on a bed of mexican rice, coated in a red chipotle enchilada sauce, and garnished with sour cream, cotija cheese, pico de gallo and freshly shredded lettuce

new york matinee named mysterious, yet playful little toggles

my Wife is refering to "Colorado risers", a knickname Jimmy and Marta gave to a favorite of ours awhile back. the risers had the regular soft housing toggle WITH a small steel bar(hard housing)as well. not syko toggles with the snap, just soft and hard housings on the same riser. no risk of a hangup and no risk of a blown toggle... unless God wanted you dead or you just REALLY fucked up. loved those!

do you mean a regular(ish) toggle with a sidemounted straight pin that is used to lock in the cats eye / white loop ?
Shortcut
Re: [vid666] Thats what I'm trying to figure out!
yeah man, I'm sure the riser has another name, but that was a knickname they got because we all jumped Moab so much and the prospect of a blown toggle was super grim. I wonder if someone still make em'?

Add one very understanding significant other to drive said vehicle, empty the pee bottle, and feed you narcotics.
