first Static line
hey guys, ive looked into it a bit and seen a couple different methods and watched the apex video on static line jumps (pretty cool tests) so is the accepted method to find the middle of the bridle and tie the overhand knot for the first anchor, then put the second one at the bridle PC attachment point using 80 lb break cord for both? ive also seen that some people use a rubberband to stow the excess bridle to keep it out of the way is that a necessary thing to do? thanks for the help!

Re: [gahnananana] first Static line
If you take a 9' bridle, tie a knot in the
middle and you are not a little person
then there is not enough length left to
bother s-folding and rubber banding.

However you plan to rig it, just try it a
few times at home, the practice will
make your confidence/skill go up.

Key Things To Remember:
Is the anchor point secure?
Is it smooth, sharp, rough?
If yes then use a bit of rope
If low use a redundant loop
Keep your PC attached (backup)
Do not wrap bridle around you
Do not snag bridle as you exit

I enjoy doing static line jumps because
the extra safety margin due to the higher
more reliable openings and much better
heading performance.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Re: [GreenMachine] first Static line
Thanks a lot for the help! when you say use a redundant loop if low is that referring to the second piece of break cord at the PC attachment point?

Thanks

Re: [gahnananana] first Static line
Yes, that is how it is done in the Apex video.
After watching it I went out and did a few
with their technique, it worked quite well.

I have experimented a bunch with various
ways to do static lines... from the CWY kind
to the simple tie a knot and jump style.

Most all work great, as long as you know
what you are doing, hence the practice on
the ground. Instead of dropping a weight
you can just throw a weight to test your new
set-up, if you do not happen to have a loft
with 20 foot ceilings.

RE: redundant loops

You need at least 1 piece of break-cord
(or used condom or black electrical tape)
to make a static line jump.

This 1 piece (be it a strand that you tie
in 2 places or loop that you tie in 1 place)
usually serves the purpose.

If you are low enough that you MUST static
line it, as in way too low to freefall, then you
should most certainly use a redundant piece
of break cord as back-up so if the first fails,
the second works.

Some people put the two at the same place.
Apex puts there two at different places but
the bottom line is simple:

1 works, 2 is safer, 3 might be silly Wink

So if we Don't Hear anything Back from you ?
Does that mean your video review & Internet BASE advice did Not go well on you learning to tie-up for Static-line deployment ?

Haha absolutely. No i decided Not to jump tonighr. I want to have someone who has static lined before check my rigging before i start doing solo SL haha. Gonna wait for a bit Wink
