Anyone not broken themselves?
G'day,

Not sure if this is the correct section to post this but meh... I was having a yarn with a mate last night and it got onto the subject of injuries and how they're inevitable in this sport, one day your just going to fuck up, you might feel it, you might not. I'm just wondering if anyone has not broken themselves yet jumping off of fixed objects? Thought it would be a rather interesting topic particually if its kept honest.

Does the fact that no one has replied answer your question?

Re: [gauleyguide] Anyone not broken themselves?
I only posted it 20 mins ago... And yes, its exactly what I'm expecting. But I think its a good point for people wanting to get into the sport to understand your going to get hurt.

huh?

stories of things that DON'T happen tend to be rather dull.

"today, I failed to slip in the bathroom."
"yesterday, I could not be bothered to search for porn on the internet."
"recently, I thought about BASE jumping, but stayed home instead."
"the last time I sat on the toilet, all went as it should."

the most entertaining stories are when a friend has found a novel way to FAIL. Douggs book is a classic for that reason!

(BUT, the Beginners Forum is a great place to have a discussion with people with limited experiences!)

Comments like that must mean its pretty cold and dark in your closet. I have no quarms with 2 chicks munching each others rugs. Its a beautiful thing Cool Just make sure to strap on your go pro when you come out.

I would have to agree. And if I ever come out of my dark closet I'd get double gopro action.

There's a local old school base jumper around here (not active anymore).. He never sustained an injury during his glory days but he's the only person I've ever talked to that hadn't been injured at some point.

Interesting by the way that I would think there wouldn't be too many people that haven't. Like I said also not sure if its the right section to post it, but I thought you advanced mofo's might read it also and have your say. I aggree, injuries make shitloads better stories but wanted to see how many (particually from the crowed thats been in it the longest) have got away with it, my thoughts are there arn't too many. Post your awesome injuries (and pics if you have em). It's all a learning curve. Should have started a poll though.

I don't have any injuries of yet, plenty of really close calls though... And I still have lots of good stories.

Good work. How many jumps? The best stories are about the whole journey, jumping off is just the icing on the cake IMO.

Re: [Steveomfg] Anyone not broken themselves?
you would get a lot more answers if you asked how many jumps is took you to get an injury
It took me 116
Shortcut
When did you get injured or busted??
Jump #181 - very minor, only 1 small bone

Zero Busts - knocking on wood as typing

900 + base, 1600 skyjumps. I've been super lucky, plenty of bad decisions. But, lots of good decisions, and walking away when it was necessary and sometimes when it wasn't ...

Do you have a tail emememy?

Re: [mfnren] Anyone not broken themselves?

DW never got injured on a BASE jump, but then he hit a bridge jumping from a plane.

I know a guy with 2500+ jumps without injury, but your MMV.

325 base so far, only 2 near death experiences, and all that has really been injured is my pride and criminal record.

Re: [Steveomfg] Anyone not broken themselves?
I know a number of people that have been in this sport as long or longer than me, and have way more jumps who have never broken themselves, and I have never bought into the idea that it is inevitable. personally I'm at 700 jumps, 22yrs, 0 injuries, of course I'm a pretty boring jumper, haven't tried any S/L aerials, or dragging my feet across Table Mt. Have Fun, B.

So what your saying is, your doing this for yourself not for the camera? Good way to be!

Cheers all for the responses!

this was jump 31, with less than 6 months in the sport.

How much detail do you want?

I've had no real injuries BASE jumping.

I've had the wind knocked way the f*** out of me but my spine guard did it's job.

So, I've yet to be actually hurt but There have been some interesting near encounters.

Re: [StealthyB] Anyone not broken themselves?
What StealthyB said. Getting hurt or killed is not inevitable at all. Some people just get what they ask for. I know of a few people (stealthyB being one) who have been jumping almost as long as I've been alive and have never been injured. It's all about how you approach it. I haven't gotten hurt yet and I don't plan on it.

Re: [cloudtramp] Anyone not broken themselves?
Its a really good thing to hear. Completing B.A.S.E. is something I have to do. There is so much to learn about to do it safely and yeah sometimes shit happens. Its sick to hear the highly expericed going for a massive trek then deciding to walk away from it to do it another day. Thanks heaps all for sharing your thoughts and experiences on this, its opened my eyes a bit more to it all.
