I think Smilee told me about this... Kinda close to where youre located right? I wonder how hard/how much it would be to add a little height to it.

It would be cool to have a legal A...

I would contribute to the purchase of this property. What is the asking price? How many acres?

Re: [INSANEDADDY] Who wants to buy some property (w/ A)
So is the A within the property boundary, or just the landing area?

Tower is still in use and not part of land.( where can u buy land with a 250,000 dollar tower w/land for 10k)

There are houses on left and behind me as i took the pic.

I had found a 360 ft free stander for 30k with one acre of land under it. It is an older AT&T style with a big run off platform. The tower is dead, no transmitting arrays at present.

you guys buying it or what ?

I was looking up property records for a similar site (290ft former LongLines tower with 2AC of land and a big building in the middle of nowhere). Originally ATT sold it off to a private party for 64K, and as of 10/2011 it was resold to another private party (non carrier) for $32.5K

If those prices are realistic, it sounds like soon someone may end up with their very own tower soon

salivating...

Give me a few hundred dollars and a trip to an REI store and a construction/crane rigging distributor and I will have you an elevator. hehehe...

Now we're talking! Wink Because, even though it's "only" 300ft, if it's your private antenna, why would you want to do the hard work of climbing it? It's like going to your office on the 30th floor - sure, you can use stairs every time, but most people use elevators.

Now that we have deal with elevator secured, how about covering antenna's metalwork with thick mats? (just like on ski resorts they cover chairlift towers) Possibly lined with Velcro so that you can wear a matching Velcro jumpsuit to stick to tower in case of a [soft, like falling into pillows] object strike.

Strikeable antenna with an elevator for 30K... hmmm... Blush Nah, still don't want it. Laugh It'll be boring as hell.

How would you know?

You told me you gave up low
jumps due to object strike(s).

Weren't you using a slider at
the Perrine last time I saw you?

Slider-OFF is fun stuff to me Angelic

Yes, I stopped jumping strikeable objects after my cliffstrike in Arizona in 2005 (can be seen on Carnage Tape, and I posted about my accident here, too). After all, how many cliffstrikes can you get away with? I walked away with some scratches and bruises. Don't want to play this lottery anymore. Angelic I gave it about a year of thinking & training before I finally made the decision, though.

Re: [GreenMachine] 300ish Freestander
Still waiting for my FJC this summer but this thread got me curious - my stepfather had a 110' HAM radio tower in his yard. it cost him $1500 (he put it up with a friend so no labor cost there).
I know that's too low, but he also has friends into HAM who have 200 to 300 foot towers - they are basically big guyed antenna frames with a non-transmitting array at the top. Any reason why you couldn't jump one of those? They usually have a small seat at the top next to the array so you can climb it and then sit and adjust your array. I am betting you could use that to launch from. Setting up a S/L might be tough though. Also the FCC requires a flashing light if the tower is over 110' or so.

Also, IF you know someone who is getting out of Ham radio, or just moving, very often they are willing to give away the tower frame, anchors and guy wire setups in exchange for you taking down the tower for them, or for very cheap plus labor of taking it down. Just a thought...

A 300' A does not have to be strikeable if you only jump with a strong enough tail wind to overcome your canopy's forward flight. However, giving a bunch of BASE jumpers a legal tower with an elevator and telling them they can only jump it when the winds are right is about like giving an addict a pound of crack and telling him that he can only smoke it on Fridays.
