Jumpin from a high rise
OK-

So I realize this is an outrageous question but I have always wondered; what would it take equipment and training wise to jump from the 26th floor of a high rise condo?

Mind you, I have NO INTENTION of doing this recreationally. I realize that in the event of a catastrophe and/or emergency, I am at a distinct disadvantage as I would have to fight my way down the stairwell almost surely ending in death.

Is this possible with an immediate release chute setup? I have read that 200 ft is minimum? 26th floor = 260 ft... possible?

Thanks,

in the past 10 years, gear heads have considered making equipment for this market. I'm not aware of any efforts that have born fruit.

recreational jumpers increase their odds by developing skills and choosing their jump conditions.

emergency jumpers will probably lack several of the following: skill, judgement, experience, emotional discipline, favorable weather, etc.

until we find ways to stop injuring people motivated to jump in good conditions, it will be hard to quickly provide you with meaningful information.

here are my thoughts on what is currently marketed as high rise escape systems : http://www.basejumper.com/...post=2947189#2947189

in short, 3rd degree burns may be a better solution, unless you train to be a cool BASE jumper, like some of the people on this forum.

Why not rappell?

Good Idea
Using rope is safer and requires less skill.

There are a tonne I auto belay systems out there that could run off a steel cable/rope system that could withstand a little more heat than the drippy melty nylon we love !!!
