Hey guys,

Does anyone out there know of one for base? There is a skydiving one, though it's a little overloaded for what we need with dropzone selection/ aircraft etc.

If there is any jumper who is also a budding app builder out there why not build one! I'm sure many base jumpers would pay a few bucks for a simple app where you log object, jump buddy's, and attach a picture that you snap at the exit and or landing area!

Police will love having that object database with you on your phone when you get caught

Well you'd just have to be crafty with the way you log it! I do that anyway with my manual log. I also very much doubt any law enforcement type is going to catch a base jumper, ask for their Iphone, and search for apps that might store object data!!

Bad idea. Especially if you didn't turn off photo geo-tagging.

Why not just use a passphrase to protect it and encrypt the database? Or just don't hand over your phone.

I talked to the author of the skydiving logbook app, and gave him a template for a BASE logbook. He said he might make a BASE specific version of the app, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it. I thought about developing it myself, but I didn't want to pay the $99 for the developer SDK (it used to be free, now you have to pay Apple first to write apps for them) :(

I'm using the skydiving log, though it's overcomplicated and full of useless stuff for a base log.

The feature I'd love the most would be attaching images you snap with your phone to the jump number. Pictures tell the best stories.

BASE 1313: If you could do the app, with ability to attach photo's to logs, I'd pay you $100 for it to cover the software you need! Message me if you're interested.

I have contacted the developer of the skydiving app, he gave me permission to use his source code to modify it for a new app, he also said he will post it to the app store for me so I won't have to buy the developer sdk. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress as I am now teaching myself Xcode. :)

Maybe, but there are several apps that can backup your data to a server then wipe your phone ;-)

you should build in a feature that allows Siri to wipe your data on command if you know your busted.

The author's name is Tom Cain. You can contact him through his website. I can't recall it offhand, but in iTunes it is listed for the skydiving app. I don't think the program is written in java though. Appears to be Cocoa and C++.

You can't control Siri's replies to any particular question. I wouldn't be surpised if Siri offered to dial 911 for you. Can anyone with iPhone 4S actually try this question?

And while you're at it, it'd be hilarious to know Siri's answers to some questions posted here in the forums. "What PC should I use?" "Are base jumpers superspicious?" "Landing a wing suit?" "Skydive Numbers, Why?" "Flat or Pro Pack?" "Alien Suits?" etc. etc.

Another idea is for someone just starting BASE to use Siri as their sole BASE mentor.

it will also have an i phone app and graphs for everything you can imagine in base jumping. if the cops get you with it then thats your problem, you should have run faster!!!!

I'm getting close to finishing the first version of the BASE Log app... we are putting the photo capability into it like you had requested.... is there anything else anyone would like to see in the app? We will do our best to accomodate.

Hey I have another idea for the app. Could you have logged jumps link to video of said jump you have uploaded to the phone? If not, could you export to excel, you could then have a version of your log book on your computer which could link to your vid library. Another idea would be a login so the data is protected from unwanted eyes.

I finished the coding to make a BASE specific app, gave it to the developer of the skydiving app, he said when he finishes the recoding of the skydiving one to work for iPad he would add my stuff and release a BASE app... I haven't heard anything new for a couple months tho... So I'll check with him to see where it's at.

Still no news since last time, but he did implement the photos into the skydiving app now. I'll contact him when I get back to the USA...

It could be awesome ig there where some sort of GPS in it, so it could recognize your whereabouts and point you to other locals in the area.

and integrated facebook account so you can check yourself in on that exit point....

yes, I was thinking the same thing. That's the first thing the cops do after any notable arrest. And you now have a log of your illegal activities. How dumb!

Put two types of password on it. One that logs in and one that erases.. :D

There is 1 for android that covers all the winged sports,up to and including speedflying.

To be clear: Police already have technology available that gets by ALL iPhone and Android passwords including systems that are supposed to delete all data if mis-entered too many times.

For further clarity, a phone confiscated during your arrest is admissible as evidence (and it's contents) in US courts.

Geotags = premeditation & prove you were there
tweets-messages = intent & possibly conspiracy to commit

Don't forget, even if you aren't using it, your phone (and the friendly to police phone company) knows where you are.

Would it be difficult to auto strip meta data from images when they are added to the app?
