Recommended experience level for Moab?
I am currently on a skydiving trip and will be passing by Moab on my way home. (This will not be until late January or early February.) I plan on calling Apex to see if they can hook me up with some locals. I wanted to know, from those who have jumped the area, what the general recommendations are for BASE experience required to make some jumps at Moab. Thank you so much.

For the Turkey Boogie, Jimmy and Marta always said 70-80 BASE jumps was "recommended".

I think it depends on your skill level and what you are willing to risk. I have 257 BASE jumps, but I know people with a lot less jumps that would do better than I in a 180 Moab situation. It also depends on your willingness to walk away if conditions aren't right and stick to the more forgiving cliffs. If you have a 180 at Tombstone, the only cliff I've jumped in Moab due to shitty weather while I was there, you'll prob have enough altitude to hook the shit out of a turn away from the cliff with no worries of turning yourself into the ground. However, if you jump a lower cliff it may require a more technical approach. Every obejct and every exit point requires individual analysis.

Damn bootlegtrader... that's a hell of a skydiving trip.
I recently visited Moab and got my E.
I wouldn't chime in here if I hadn't gotten a wake up call on my visit.
Make sure your object avoidance skills and your deep brake settings are dialed in.
Tailwinds are hard to come by in Moab and climbing is a bitch with two sprained ankles.
Next time I think I'll get the t-shirt instead.

If you have to ask, you're not ready. Slider-down solid rocks are potentially the most dangerous jumps there are.

How much experience?

Just enough to know your deep brake setting is dialed in for your current weight and gear.

Just enough to have solid symmetric and relaxed body position totally second nature on running dead air exits.

Just enough to know you're capable of getting after responding to inevitable off-headings.

Just enough to not get distracted by the various pressures at the exit point (committing down climb or rappel, peers not jumping with plans, crazy cool objects and scenery etc.)

Just enough to know your self and be honest with yourself about your abilities, limitations and fears.

75 base jumps, 5 terrifying scrambles, 3 acohol poisonings, and two bad LSD trips are recommended before attemping Moab objects.

Well, I'd say as long as you are confident jumping a packjob from the night before that you have ZERO memory of doing, then you're probably ready...or maybe thats just the zima talking.

Everyone knows the quicker you obtain the most jumps from the same small amount of objects you are WAY period and old school and ready for anything Sly

Well I ran out of Boone's Farm and watermelon pucker...had to move on to stealing triple sec and zima from my grandmother.

But seriously, if they are still making zima then I am gonna find it and be the most unpopular guy at a new years eve party ever!

you know how the fad is (or at least was) drowning your lime in a Corona ?
Well, when I was 18 my thing was drowning gummy bears in Zima.

BTW, how do these last few posts relate to experienced needed to jumping Moab ?

...if you can't find the correlation between girly alcoholic beverages and Moab, then maybe you just aren't ready for itTongue

I can tell you that after 18 years, the best thing I started doing for low cliff jumps is get a full-face helmet, and spine protector at least.
I actually now wear shoulder pads, knee pads, shin guards, full face helmet, elbo pads, GLOVES, sturdy boots, and sometimes ankle braces.

There have been plenty of injuries and fatalities on low cliffs, so in the infamous words of Adam Filipino: "Dress for the CRASH, not the jump".

1/4 of the fatalities in LB say different.

But numbers lie. For accuracy you would have to look at ratios. Do you think Moab gets jumped more in a year than LB? Any why only 1/4th? We're 3/4th of the jumps in LB SD jumps?

And what about MD 20/20 or Carlos Rossi? Makes me almost miss high school.
