How many students have you mentored
I am wondering how many students other experienced jumpers have mentored. I've mentored 12. How about you?

youre alive because you havent taken any unnecessary water landings. had that been the case, being untrained in the water (and lacking the expert aquatic BASE skills that i possess), you would drown............

A very good point, however, I do have one now. And on a low turn at that. Pirate The same goofy object that slammed you before you left! I need a swimming mentor.

One, ever, and I think thats all I do, unless one of my other brothers decides he wants to jump.

Can you define ' Mentored ' just a little more . Seems a little broad/simplistic ?

> ' Mentored ' a student .
It could cover anything from training-up someone for his 1st jump & putting him off . & then never ever jumping with him/her again .
Or Working with a BASE jumper threw a whole 1st year of BASE jumping & 50 different objects .
.

Never counted but I should.... around 60 so far...
I'm getting old.

Like Space tracy said to me once, sometimes we create good people ... sometimes we create monsters....

I see a big problem nowadays coming about base ethics... no matter what you teach for them, fakebook and youtube is more important....

Cheers for 2012.

Or somebody who had 10 or 20 jumps before you took them in. They know a little but not enough and you are left filling in the gaps.

1.

I've been "helping" this guy not to make mistakes. I'm pretty much making him learn on his own and then saying "ok, what have you learned?" Then we go out to a very forgiving span and put it to practice. I'm letting him go at his own speed,

BTW he will be the last person I do this with. It scares the shit out of me not knowing what is actually going on in his (or anybody's) head when he jumps. I don't like the resposibility of being responsible for him if something happens. Its different and more relaxing when I jump with someone who is a BASE jumper.

Re: [460] How many students have you mentored
I have lurked for a while with the intention to do a course either the end of next year of beginning of 2013 so BASE experience is 0.

But how does a mentor know when the student moves from a student to a fellow jumper?

I know that the more i skydive i realise the amount of knowledge that their is to try to learn. I would imagine that this is the same in BASE and that you never stop learning.

Can it even be put into numbers or is it more of a feeling of how they have dealt with a situation that suddenly makes you think that they are ready?

In reply to:

If I choose to *mentor* anyone, they are immediately a fellow jumper. I've never taken anyone, with very low or no experience, that I do not know. Generally I want to hang out with that person in real life as well, so I'm just a friend willing to share some experience.

I won't ever suggest BASE jumping, but if a friend is going to do it anyway, chances are I'll help out.
