Picture Of Vents Doing Their Job
Doing some work on a skyhook style paraglider cutaway harness using a 4/7 vented Fox as the reserve and we got this cool shot off a foot mount of the vented cells inflated before the unvented cells. Just thought it was interesting to see.

Re: [MontBlanc] Picture Of Vents Doing Their Job
the Ace (unvented) opens faster than a Vented Fox!!!

I seen in person many, many times.

The Ace presurrizes the BEST..

Anyone know why this is.???

By the way , I like and own the Fixed Object Xpress!!!

Also seen the Ace stay pressurized in wall strike situtions as well.

Yeah, I'm aware of the RR system, it was partly the inspiration for this project, that and being tired of waiting on that thing to come out for the last few years.

And it wasn't meant to be a discussion about how the vented fox opens faster than anything else....just a picture of vents working....which is cool....Unimpressed

Cool footage, thanks for sharing.

If you please:
a. forward speed when you released?
b. square footage of the Fox?
c. wing loading?
d. belly canopy?

Very cool. And makes me want vents!

Re: [GreenMachine] Picture Of Vents Doing Their Job
Cutting away from a paraglider so forward speed is probably about 25mph, It's a 245, wing loading is .62 and its a paragliding belly reserve, since were testing a new system. Its probably reckless to just cut away to a single parachute in an untested system. If nothing else it makes you feel a little better when you grab the cutaway handle. Crazy

In reply to:

Forward speed ~25 mph
Wing Loading .62

Having that kind of forward speed
is part of the reason you guys get
such fast inflation, good videos.

Curious, why such a light wing loading?
I jump off low solid objects with a wing
loading around .74 with a vented Troll.

Since you are in the wide open, up high,
and over water, I'd be using a smaller
wing for more fun landings Wink

belly reserve... probably reckless to just
cut away to a single parachute...

Umm, what??

I have 3 cutaways and 311 BASE jumps
and each time I was betting my life that
the only parachute there would work Angelic

If nothing else it makes you feel a little
better when you grab the cutaway handle

Very True, thanks for your time.

Re: [ineed2fly] Picture Of Vents Doing Their Job
That is a nice photo.
The vents are great. They allow pressurization from the relative wind created by a falling jumper.
Openings, on non-vented canopies, when a head wind is present can be nice. But put that same canopy in a tail wind environment and the game changes. In all, a vented canopy is better suited for BASE.

Wall strike footage is often hard to come by. And we here at Apex BASE have been studying the vents vs. non-vents project for about a decade. I invite anyone with good footage of wall strikes, tail wind inflation (good and bad) to share that footage with us directly. We will evaluate the information to educate ourselves and others. It may even influence the next generation of BASE.

Here’s a link of some jump comparisons we could gather. Unfortunately, we don’t have a non-vented opening to compare. http://www.apexbase.com/video.php?media_id=1974

Stay tuned for more information regarding vents vs. non-vents in a line damage scenario.

Thanks
Todd

Not reckless, only in an untested system.

Hi Todd,
Thanks for the info and the videos! Great stuff!
Just wondering if you also have the landings of all of those canopies? Is there a significant difference in the lift generated when flairing by each of these?
