Hey im new to jumping. I wanted to know how much it would be equipment wise to start skydiving on your own then to switch to base? Is their different equipment needed from skydiving to base jumping or can you use the same equipment?

I have jumped before and I signed up for skydiving school just curious in how expensive this sport is initially during start up. I dont mean to step on any toes just curious. Thanks.

Re: [silentfactor] Schools
they are two toatally different animals.
the gear is totally differentand not interchangable.

lets do some math:

3k for your A liscense
5k for a skyrig
5k in jumps 25ea x 200
1k helmet, audible, altimeter, jumpsuit

so we are at 14k and only have 225 jumps
and our skygear... very minimum amount of jumps to start base. (still a very bad idea)

i would get more skydiving experience before i base.....5k more in jumps 25ea x 200.

now you still dont have allot of jumps but a better feel for how to react, so 19k later you might be ready for a fbjc

1.5k for a first base jump course
1k for travel expenses and flight/hotel/rentacar
2.5k for a new base rig.

so it looks like right about 25k and you can come play with the base jumpers.

and this dosent cover any beer, gas, or other expenses that you WILL incur on your skydiving/base endeavor.

enjoy skydiving, dont rush base, dont be in a hurry, have fun, and most importantly: when you have the skyjumps and want to start base find a GOOD mentor and groundcrew, drive, buy beer and hang out. learn ALLOT before you start

Re: [silentfactor] Schools
$900 used skyrig with Raven

1st jump free cause someone who loves you gave you a gift certificate.

5 more jumps in AFF @ $225ea

7 hop-n-pops from 2k @ $13 ea.

Now you are at $2116

Get the Raven modified @$300

Get a cheap used velcro rig for about $200.

The Great Book of BASE @ $32

Now you are at. OH! Even better, BORROW the book.

Now you are @ $2616.

Trip to the Perrine, well that's up to you. Mooch a ride or go Greyhound. You are so IN baby! Rock and Roll.

Me. I've never been to the Perrine, I'm a little short on cash.

@moderators: can we just have another forum for trolls?

@silentfactor: dude, follow these easy steps:
1) learn READING.
2) READ articles here, on Blinc, and
3) check out manufacturers pages

then, you may come back and ask some informed question. you are not stepping on toes, you just showed very openly to everyone that you do not even take the time to read easily available (potentially lifesaving) information. ask youself what that will tell people about you and your mental readyness to enter a sport that relies on informed decisions to survive.
