Skydiver wants to BASE in Norcal
Hi Folks,

I've got a little over 100 skydives (way too little to start jumping, but just enough to start reading and learning) and I wanted to start looking into base in the Norcal area, I jump out of Skydance Skydiving in Davis, Ca. Any specifics groups or forums i should look into to find similar minded psychos in my area Cool.

Thanks for any help you can offer,

Eric

You gotta be kidding?!? EVERY DZ in the greater NorCal area has a handful or more of those basehumpers you seek out.

Here's a thought: try meeting people in real life

But that would expose me to the cruel harsh reality of.....reality...not many base jumpers at my DZ, but ill ask around next time i travel to a new one

There are likely more than you think, or at least some that will point you to the right direction of others.

Not every jumper walks around the DZ in an Apex shirt and showing viedos of thier latest fixed object outing on the TV in the packing room.

Skiydive and work on your canopy skills, make friends and skydive with them, bring beer and hang out after hours. You may find soon there are more jumpers than you thought at your DZ.

In reply to:

Are you sure about that?

Give it time. If it's meant to be, you just meet the people you want to meet.

well, some day you will understand why you do not see basejumpers "out in the open" at _THAT_ dz.

if you find psychos, i suggest you avoid them at all cost.

but if you are patient and talk to the right people and hang out at the dz(s) long enough (try also hollister and marina) you might see BASE-gear (=i am implying that you are able to identify it). if then, you have a decent "pickup-line", and are persistent, you might find the right people.

and do not think "others" are just waiting for some other newbie who wants to get into base. prepare for refusal and do not give up. in NORCAL it is especially hard to get to know people because there's too many skydivers, resulting in too many wannabes that get on the nerves of the serious people.

from my own experience, i suggest you show interest and offer driving and groundcrew. reason 1: everybody loves a driver. reason 2: there is not a lot of places to learn more about base than when you are driving people around for hours that LOVE to talk about base.

if you have found someone and have been their personal driver for about three months, contact me again for lesson 2.

i wish you patience, low gas prices, and hope your organism deals well with caffeine :-)

A couple suggestions...

Be low key. Talking about how much you want to base jump will not make you many friends. Keep your ears open, and your mouth shut, you'll learn a lot more. Seriously listen and evaluate what people have to say.

Learn as much about your gear as you can.

As flummi said, stay away from the loose canons, you want to jump with people that think about the stupid shit they do.

Go jump at all the DZ's in the area, lodi also, being from SkyD you've probably heard what a terrible place it is, go check it out for yourself. There are cool people at all the norcal dz's...
