Inconspicuous ways to carry your gear
What're some of your favorite ways to be sneaky with your gear transportation?

I figure it's not very important 95% of the time...I'm sure you can just put your rig on and walk in most buildings and not get hassled, but I'm just curious about how people deal with getting their pads/rigs through security when it actually exists.

Re: [Zebu] Inconspicuous ways to carry your gear
You can put your rig, shin guards, helmet.. in a teddy bear(this has been done before). Or buy a backpack, tear it apart, and use the external part of it to make a sort of 'cover' that sticks over your rig, or you can figure out how to make a container that looks just like a normal backpack.

Re: [Zebu] Inconspicuous ways to carry your gear
Not so much about sneaky but if you're crossing the border in a car.. Avoid keeping your stashbag in the trunk.

Most of the time during crossing they ask to pop the trunk for a quick search and who knows what they are doing back there while you sit and wait for the go ahead to pass.

Border officials definatly aren't trained to be gentle and avoid disturbing the contents of your personal effects.

Re: [Zebu] Inconspicuous ways to carry your gear
Most people don't jump with a complete robotic exoskeleton either :), you could ditch some of that stuff and possibly focus on training more than padding... but your probably not going to, so in that case you might as well buy doubles of all the armor, and then get some pillows and duck tape while your at it. I'll be thinking of you next time I watch RoboCop.

While I can think of dozens of good techniques for sneaking gear into places, I can't really think of any good reasons to discuss them on an internet forum. Wink

Sounds interesting! Where are you planning to Jump Zebu?

Re: [darkvoid] Inconspicuous ways to carry your gear
maybe most of people dont use padding.
But the original post was most probably about building jumps, wich takes place most of the time in an urban environment where cars made of metal replace soft and friendly bushes. where lights poles, public phones, concrete walls are sometime sticking out from everywhere Tongue, maybe training will help you to correct instantly a non planned or non whished 180 but it doesnt change anything in the fact that you will lost altitude doing it, and sometime on some specialy tricky low jumps, big loss of altitude mean sometime non planned LZ in this case padding can make difference between waiting for cops and paramedics laying on the ground in your blood because you broke-oppened both of your knees on some hard concrete bench during an emegency landing and running away from flashing lights with only some scratch and bruises Smile. so yes sometime it can be a good idea to be a little bit protected (you can also hide everything under clothes to dont look like robocop Tongue) but base jumping is, i think about the feeling you get when you jump not about what you look like when you jump especially with some non repeatable building jumps. (sorry for my bad english its not my fault i am french)

Thank you for the obvious doomsday senario. I was teasing Zebu, as I know him personally. With the gear he jumps in he could get tackled by an entire football team and not notice a thing until he realized he was on the ground.

My pads may look funny but damn they're comfy and don't restrict movement...and they're warm =) They go under any of my long-sleeve shirts so they aren't a snag hazard. They're a mild pain to put on before a jump, but every time I have them on, I don't regret that time spent.

These are not the websites i ordered from but just a link to the pads in case you're curious.

Re: [greenstripe117] Inconspicuous ways to carry your gear
That's right Greenstripe, you tell me who's boss. Damn the man and the horse he rode in on. I'll make my own decisions in this world because of how RAD I am. Maybe I'll even trick the people at Morpheus into selling me base gear when I have 32 skydives. But my teen angst will prevail over all! After I take an FJC I'm going to shred in SLC on my four hour layover with my new-found BASE skills, and then go back home where I'll just rub it right in to everyone's face of how sick and rad I am. Never mind all the people before me that had more experience and infinitely more jumps than me and still died base jumping... I've done a complete total of seven hop and pops devoted to the canopy skills recommendation sheet that consolidated rigging outlined. I am my own man and make my own decisions. Screw anyone who advises me otherwise because they just don't know me and my capabilities. Obviously they are threatened by me and just want to hold me down. Look out base jumping hear me roar!

When it comes down to it at the end of the day the base gear manufacturer doesn't give a fuck if you go in, they are in business to sell gear. The instructor of the FJC doesn't teach the course because it is so exciting for them, a fun time, or because you have the skills necessary, he teaches it because he needs to buy groceries and support his family. Isn't it obvious that the people, or in this case person, that tells you to train first and BASE later is the only one that doesn't have something to gain from you? You are paying people to tell you what you want to hear. Typing this was a waste of time, as it wont get through to you, but at least it was entertaining for a little while.

Zebu, your lack of common sense is understandable. Mad scientist intelligence and common sense is like oil and water. Keep wearing your robocop outfit, keep on getting more experience skydiving and training for base... and I bet you'll probably do ok.

Do the smart thing.. SLOW THE FUCK DOWN... BASE is not forgiving.... 99% of the people in BASE worked really hard to get were they are, Tons of experience, and a lot of time was set aside. they didnt take the fast track of tricking manufactures to sell u gear, or FJC's when you dont even have an A license.. Yes.. at the end of the day it is your own choice, But don't splat at the bottom of any objects i jump and burn them.... Skydiving is a fun sport.. slow down and actually take time to learn to properly track... exit stable.... and fly your body... Situations in BASE (Like malfunctions) depend on your muscle memory to react in time... You dont build that memory with 40 jumps....

There is a reason that almost EVERYONE on this forum is telling you to slow down... Theres been plenty of people that have gone down the road your headed... Most of which would tell you they are A- Lucky to be alive.. and B- If they could have gone back and gotten more skydiving experience, They would have.

Yes BASE is the most amazing sport on the planet... wouldnt you like to be around longer then 15 jumps to enjoy it?

Re: [darkvoid] Inconspicuous ways to carry your gear
you're making assumptions as to the full ramifications of what my decisions are, and I'm not trying to "tell you who's boss."
And I'm not jumping during my layovers, because good advice was provided as to why I shouldn't.
I don't say "screw your advice," because I think you probably know much better than I do, but I think you can relax a little bit more on your advising.
If you throw eggs at the wall they break; if you keep them warm, they hatch and become tasty chicken.
I'd hope you aren't threatened by me, because I in no way intend to threaten anyone.
I don't think I'm rad, I don't wanna be cool, and I don't care about rubbing anything in anyone's face. This doesn't have anything to do with other people.
I don't know why this sport has to be so political too...Unsure

It is true though, that I am my own man and make my own decisions, as does everyone in this world. I am prepared to accept the consequences of the decisions I make. Thanks for your sound advice and concern. Sorry if I ever offended you.

Now I'm going to stop posting on forums entirely anyway. I'll keep reading, because in this sport you can never stop learning.

are you sure you haven't thrown the eggs first?

do you feel you have not be respected enough?

when you claim it is political, is that because people have not embraced you and your agenda?

do you believe respect and consideration should be given, not earned?

might it be possible that you burst on the scene here and demonstrated very little respect. have you read all the articles? have you followed the solid advice published? or have you ignored all this help that is freely given?

I bet if you had read first, and shown a willingness to follow the advice provided, you'd have been better received. (I've actually seen it before.) I think when you chose your path, you effectively chose how you would be received. Unsure

Traveling inconspicuously with all your BASE Gear from site to site ?
It takes many years to refine the proper vehicle that will be deceptive @ 1st glance & NOT give-away that you are a BASE Jumper on the prowl . An art that is both sensitive to delicate nuance of style for BASE stealth .
