Xray-proof rig
Has this been done? I feel like with today's technology, there exists materials that could perform the same functions as the metal components in a BASE rig and be affordable to have made to test and possibly use. Anyone interested in looking into that? There are some small labs at my university that I worked with through direct research and my honors thesis program who do specific research in destructive materials analysis and testing (friction/strength/heat and cold/etc) and so the equipment/science for the testing is there...just would need some very experienced riggers/BASE jumpers for help....and a good cover story.

Too stoned?

Re: [Zebu] Xray-proof rig
Morpheus has already made one.
It was on display at Bridge Day;
Velcro, fixed leg straps, and a
polymer chest strap buckle.

And yes.

The dacron lines are easy to see on an x-ray machine. A metal free rig though has been made several times. Cops have accused jumpers during drug busts with such rigs as possessing "smuggler's rigs."

If you do something outside of parachute equipment for your thesis, consider the paper "Can you hear the shape of a drum." Consider doing something like that with a ripple tank using fractal like edges.

If only I could research whatever I wanted Angelic...but I'll settle for interesting applicable topics that are sinkholes for government and private spending.

Re: [Zebu] Xray-proof rig
I erroneously assumed you wanted what
Morpheus' prototype is, which is a rig w/
zero metal, light weight, very small, etc.

Okay, let's start over...

Please define "x-ray proof rig"? and why?

Superman has trouble with lead boxes but
1) it would be conspicuous, 2) very heavy,
and 3) you could only jump it once ;-)

Re: [GreenMachine] Xray-proof rig
An x-ray proof rig would have to be made of beryllium, a dangerous and mechanically brittle element. You would die of berylliosis just handling the stuff.

Re: [460] Xray-proof rig
You can always trow a chunk of uranium http://www.unitednuclear.com/ in the pack tray, it'll blind the x-ray machine.

Re: [uer16] Xray-proof rig
Why I said xray I dont know...that would be near impossible. I meant metal detector 0.o

For better convo, I'm starting a new thread about something more interesting and applicable =P
