Help for a noob
Hey there! i am just starting out to discover the high action sports, and i have not even sky dived. What i am really wanting to know is if there is a school i can go to learn how to base jump with out skydiving xp or do i need to do a certain amount of jumps skydiving and do solo jumps before i can do my first base jump? any advise would be great and of any place that would teach a person like myself to eventually my first jump?

The truth is even more AWESOME. As your nick suggests, you're into a bit crazy things and want to take a walk on the wild side. Sir, you've come the right place! You do not even need to take a school or anything to base jump since school means education, education means knowledge and knowledge means safety and that boring crap is not for you. All you want to do is to be radical and live life on the edge, at the end of the day if you would be in it for the safety you could take up knitting or start playing pool. So get yourself a rig, f*ck all and start hucking (there is plenty available in the classifieds on this website or if none of the pussies there won't sell you one, check out eBay). It's as simple as that. At the end of the day, it's just base jump. How hard can it be?

Last guy who came around here and asked advice on howto become a basejumper without skydiving ended up strangling some chick and he is now in jail. Do you want be like him or would you rather just go and signup for a tandem skydive?

Lucky guy, I run a base jumping school. It's called base gumping skool. I don't actually have any base jumps yet but I'm skipping this part because I don't think I really need them in order to teach. I've done a LOT of research and I pretty much know everything.

I live on an island so we don't have many options close by but we can start with cars and palm trees and work our way up to the causeway. You can use my umbrella until you're ready to buy a backpack thingy. How much do you weigh? I have a 52" perro-shoot pulley-outty thingy that may work if we tie it to your hands, swing the rope through your crotch and loop it around your neck. How much money do you have?

Hey Kent,

No doubt you have figured out by the wiseass responses to your post that many here consider your idea to be something less than a good idea.

To put it bluntly, it is potentially a very deadly idea. Yes it has been successfully done, but I am sure that the few who have done it would be among the first to discourage others from trying it.

My advice is to learn to skydive--it's a lot of fun. Then decide whether you want to BASE jump.

BTW, there *are* a couple of safe ways to make a first BASE jump without skydiving first but the problem is that they will not teach you the skills you need to survive the typical BASE jump.

I know it sounds a lot like arrogance or elitism, but sometimes it takes a bit of bluntness to burst the delusions that youtube can produce. In all honesty I can only imagine how many lives could be saved if people just listened those who've been there first...truly. How many retards have died because they think they can learn to ride a on 1000cc sportbike, or the dumbasses who by 180 hp Busa just to look cool?
BASE jumping is not simply, it's not refined and safe, and it's not for the weekend warrior. It takes intensive study and commitment...there's a reason why it took humankind to 10's of thousands of years before our first flight.
As a beginner to another, take my advice: learn to skydive, see if you like it, see how your body reacts to it, take time to learn then make a decision. I started with 250 before I worked my way up to a liter bike--I'd probably be dead if I didn't. Don't be a dumbass.

I started on a liter bike. Just saying... Crazy 250cc=heavy bicycle with no pedels.

(Still a good point, just felt like being an ass)

Did you ride dirt bikes though? Most people aren't skilled enough or self-controlled enough to start like that. Way too many mental defectives out there who don't know their own limitationsCool You're 1 in 10,000 my friend. Cool

Don't listen to all of these guys. they aren't that coo and don't know what they are talking about. Basejumping is way easier than skydiving. You aren't as high up so not that much can go wrong. You just hop off an pop your parachute.. Anyways Just get on ebay or dropzone.com and buy a velocity parachute(they are the best for base jumping make sure it is a velocity) and any container(or parachute pack) it will fit in. If you really cant find a container you should be able to rig something up with a backpack and rock climbing harness. Then get some of your friends to help you hook everything up for safety. (Four eyes are better than two) Its not that hard to do, parachutes are really easy to hook up. The velocity parachute should come with jumping instruction book as well as hookup instructions. Once you have read the book and have everything hooked up time to jump. Go find a hotel with a balcony on at least 15th-20th floor. Strap your gear on , climb over the rail and jump off. Most important is to pop your parachute right away. If you have any problems just start shaking the parachute straps and it will open up. Dont worry about landing. It is easy just pull the little handle things down when you feel you feet start to hit the ground. The velocity parachute pretty much will land itself. Hope i could help. Good luck.
