Static line jump on a round?
I don't have a round and I am not on planning jumping one any time soon. I would like too but I am just asking. I don't know about rounds and required deployment speeds, I was just wondering.

Has anyone done this? I don't even know if it would work?!?!

Thanks.

sure, it will work just fine, but you still need more altitude than for a square to inflate.

I am quite certain military does a lot of round SL from both helicopters and planes

I got a few rounds I can borrow or sell you for the experiments - just get video :)

Yea, I wonder how much more altitude? I am aware of the military jumping them static wise. I was just wondering about a 200ft bridge.

There have been plenty of static lined rounds from the top of the Astrodome in Houston. No doubt some of the old timers could give you some good info.

I have BASE jumped rounds but only on freefalls from about 400 ft. There are some tricks used in packing for BASE jumping a round. You will want to check into that before you jump one.

One is rubberbanding the apex.

Another, more obvious one is to not 45 the skirt.

Also, we almost always stowed the lines in the pack tray.

If you read it's a TARD, not a SL

Oh, ok, but it doesn't make it any less awesome.

Yeah, it's been done many times, particularly off one particular 170 foot cliff in the southwest. Here's one from 380 feet and another from a 170 foot cliff.

They take slightly longer to open, but not much. The opening on a 24 foot from 170 feet should put you in the saddle around 70 feet. I prefer the Super 22 round canopy. The K-20 opens fast too but it's too small that even landing in the water is harsh.

Rubber band the apex, don't 45 fold the lower part of the canopy, use pony tail rubber bands to confine the lines and just lay them in the bottom of your tray. Make sure there symmetry in the pack job, like you would with a square.

The photos are from my BASE trips in 1993.

The Astrodome jumps were from 192 feet. Here are some of the pics from 1982.

Cool. Thanks, love the out fits, where are the over sized ski goggles and the radical hand signals?

The jumpers were Phil Smith (BASE 1) and Phil Mayfield (BASE 2). They made $10,000 per jump, including the practice jumps.

Damn, that's a lot of cash for back then.
