Here's a vid of that thing working. Pretty sketchy by todays standards.

I own an identical one made by APCO
it has a Mayday 18 PDA round attached by a single riser. It's in a freebag (sleeve) that has a SL attachment carabiner, no PC.

My opinion is that if a whuffo was to use this in an emergency situation, and was to hook the SL right, and was to put the rig on correctly, and was to somehow avoid hitting the building under canopy, they would be very very lucky to just have broken legs and pelvis

When was that made? I made the harnesses for a few bailout rigs that looked pretty much exactly like that. I packed canopies into them and apparently they were being used by certain pilots. Not exactly legal I'm sure but they worked great.
