Brazil or Australia?
So I'm trying to plan my R&R from Afghan sometime this February and I have narrowed it down to either Brazil or Australia. Which one do you guys think would be a better choice for an awesome BASE adventure with some nice objects and a few decent locals willing to show me around in exchange for beer and favors? The Army is picking up the tab for the plane ticket and I've had zero expenses since I got here so cost is not really a factor. Just let me know which you think would be a better adventure and if there are any locals on this forum please hit me up if you can.

Also if you have any other ideas I could try let me know. My standards are that it has to be warm (so basically tropics or southern hemisphere), and it needs to be close enough to water to where I can sit on a beach and drink beer.

Cheers,
Brian

If wingsuits are involved, Brazil is the only option.

Otherwise, both are fun. Flip a coin ;-)

Re: [outrager] Brazil or Australia?
food is also great in brazil, i gained around 8 kg in the 2 1/2 years I lived there. And not to mention the girls... but if you like crapy landing areas go to australia, after this I guess that everything else is just a piece of cake :-)

Re: [UG6] Brazil or Australia?
Although I do not base anymore I am closely aware of the base jumping in AUS. Its ALL low and nasty. not to say that is not some peoples thing, but don't expect high WS cliffs or terminal tracking jumps. there are some nice buildings on the gold coast but locals are very protective and rightly so, busts are common ( one a couple of weeks ago on a B in surfers paradise ) and security always gets lots worse afterwards. So other than the B's if you know someone who will take you , the cliffs and A's will again require local input and the famous waterfall is cool but WET. I know nothing about Brasil. I personally have never jumped in AUS but know the scene inside out . Skydiving is my thing now. THere are alot of active basjumpers in AUS but you better like it low and very dirty and as the other poster said : dont expect any kind of space to land in.

Aus is better for beaches and naff for base honestly.

Brasil is amazing. If you like sketchy/amazing wingsuit jumps, thats the place. Locals are pretty nice if you know some.

If you need tips about jump in the far south of Brazil (state Rio Grande do Sul), I can help. There is plenty to jump from. Send me a PM once you have decided.

Awesome. I've still got a couple weeks to make up my mind. I'm leaning towards Oz just because of the super sketchiness factor and the fact that I could speak English the whole time. The wingsuiting is definitely tempting though

"I personally have never jumped in AUS but know the scene inside out"

How is this possible? You have never jumped here, but seem to know all about our sites? Interesting...

Yes, alot of our sites are low and "dirty", but not all. There are some classic sites, including some cliffs approaching 1000'. At least one 900 footer would rate in my top 5 sites I have ever jumped, even though I have jumped in many European countries and in the US.

I agree if you come to Oz expecting big and easy stuff, then you will be disappointed. It would not be a first choice for a BASE trip, but it also depends what you are after. But we have some
very challenging jumping that does require very good canopy skills.

And of course, we have the beaches to supplement your trip :)

Cheers, you'd be more than welcome. Feral's grand tours are that good he could charge for them.

Looking like its going to happen...may split my time between Oz and NZ though for some big cliffs but I haven't figured it out yet. I have a contact in Sydney right now and I will definitely be looking for some fun.
