Just thought I would get this out there before I pass out from the pain.

Someone might have snagged a canopy on a guy wire and had that canopy collapse. Might have also reinflated and surged toward the ground. Then as flight planed out there might have been a big crane bucket hanging about 15 feet off the ground-which may or may not have been struck quite hard. And finally, someone might have been hanging there suspended about 8 feet off the ground.

Super lucky to have only superficial injuries, a shattered ego and a broken phone. If not for the help of some awesome and experienced individuals things could have gotten much worse.

I think it was "oh shit" followed by "whew" followed by "oh shit" and "ouch". Then there was an "I'm ok" (those are always good).

Ego's heal, and lessons learned that we walk away from are good lessons!

Glad you're okay, now please entertain us for real and post a video (private if need be). Naked or not, I'm assuming you (or at least one of you) had a camera.

none of the following sadly. couldnt see the wire, thought I was below it. turns out I was not below it. fucking stupid.

Im kicking myself for many things now, but the fact that there is no photo or video might be the worst part

What was the extent of your "superficial injuries"(gear included)?

edit: How high were you when you hit the wire?

just some bruising and scrapes. upon quick inspection of the gear I found 3 small holes up to the size of a quarter and and a 5 inch tear on leading edge of the bottom skin. didn't see any damage to lines or container.

Im gonna say I was in the 100' range when I hit the wire but an opinion from the ground would be more accurate.

having witnessed a couple of Guy Wire strikes . It is much more fun to watch from the ground & from the exit point .
Also It's Noisier than you would expect when the Canopy hits & it shakes the Mast pretty good also .

Are you sure it was a guy wire? Sounds like it could have been a girl wire. They can be hard to see sometimes.

Very glad that you were able to make it out of there with no real injuries.

A couple thoughts:
Having ropes/rescue equipment on hand for this proved to be extremely helpful for both getting him down from the basket, and then going up and getting his parachute. For the last 2 years, we have made it a point to never jump without climbing gear. This was the first time we actually needed it, but the fact is we had it when we needed it.

I also plan on adding a few more things to my rescue kit that would have made this situation a little easier. (like a throw bag).

If you don't currently have any climbing gear (or knowledge), it may save your ass someday to get some!

Glad your OK Dave, and thanks for letting us get some real rope rescue practice. We have been wanting to use this shit for a long time!! Patch up your canopy, and lets try this again shall we? I bet you won't do that again!

I always carry a throw bag in my car. Super handy. I heard of a dude that carries dental floss with like a fishing weight on his person. It is super small and you can carry it on you anywhere. You use it as a drop line to pull the rope up to you. I think it is a great idea. Solid job guys. Guess those rescue practices paid off. Let's do it again soon so we are ready for moab.

I missed how you actually got up there when I walked away to check out my injuries, good work man!

This winter should provide plenty of time to get up to speed with climbing gear and techniques. and Im gonna have to go back and not have multiple near death encounters.

Ha! I can fix THAT!!! If that's the biggest injury, 'yo ass is doing good!

I blew out two cells recently in a tower/wire strike. Happened so fast, I managed to spider monkey the tower and cutaway. Then had to climb back up to free my canopy, toss it down then climb down with not a scratch or bruise on my body. Fucking crazy.

How high did you jump from and what was your delay?

Rollover, 180ft. I'd just landed from a pca and got greedy.
