All jokes aside, my guess is Salt Lake City Utah. It is a great place for airborne sports with 2 DZs, 17 or so legal cliffs in the wasatch front, a wind tunnel and world renowned paragliding zone. My bridge is just 3 hours away too!

Re: [jtholmes] Where is the Largest Concentration of BASE jumpers in the US?
NorCal is pretty full too. Not many legal objects but that never stops active jumping. SF also has a world renowned area for hangliding/paragliding/and other foot launching activity right on the coast.

But your bridge is a bit further than 3 hrs drive Wink

Re: [dride] Where is the Largest Concentration of BASE jumpers in the US?
agreed. Norcal does not suck at all.

Not positive, but I don't think Ethiopia is in the US...could be wrong.
I do know, however, that North Carolina has the highest concentration of BASE jumpers with very similar DNA. Wink

As far as I'm informed, Bridge day is the largest concentration of Skydivers doing a BASE Jump...Tongue

As far as midwest states go, Ohio does pretty well. I know Michigan has lots of active jumpers too.
Shortcut
Parachuting Meccas
Florida and California are both large states
with big populations and tons of dropzones
hence more BASE jumper than most states.

Of course Idaho and Utah have legal sites
so they definitely beat both in terms of the
greatest concentration relative to the total
number of residents.

Re: [Mikki_ZH] Where is the Largest Concentration of BASE jumpers in the US?
Bridge Day does attract many skydivers making their first BASE jump (approximately 24% of the 450 jumpers). There are also some jumpers who only BASE jump at Bridge Day. But the event is still dominated by true BASE jumpers if you look at the numbers:

The average jumper had 87 BASE jumps and 1111 skydives

Thank You Jason
Hard numbers are always more educational
than general perceptions!! Here are two of my
favorite examples of reality versus perception:

Most parents are scared of having a gun in their
home but do not worry about their swimming pool
although the truth is MANY more infants die from
drowning than getting shot.

Most people worry about dying from their chute
"not opening" although more people every year
die from texting while driving, or better yet, 200
people a year die from colliding with a deer while
operating their coffin on wheels.

I have almost 4,000 total jumps and just over
300 BASE jumps but I am much more scared of
Cancer and Car accidents than I am of my 2-man
tent not opening.

Salt Lake City, Moab, or Perrine.

Re: [460] Thank You Jason
ive only been jumping since february and ive met and jumped with over 30 jumpers that live in slc area and i dont even go to the dz's my guess is there are at least twice that many jumpers that live in the area. ive spent a lot of time at the perrine and it doesnt seem like there are that many people that jump and live in twin but i could be wrong. only been to moab a couple times and met a few locals i dont know how many really live there.

Correct. Also known as "first time jumpers" and it's the most suitable object for it in the world.
Cheers!

most suitable for the event or first timers?
as far as first timers go the perrine has a lot better landing zone and friendlier water.

Anybody who has the basic canopy skills necessary for BASE should not have any problem at all with the landing area at The New. If a prospective jumper needs all of the space available at the Perrine to feel comfortable landing a big 7-cell parachute safely then some more airplane time is in order.

My first jump was the Perrine btw. But that's just because I SUCK at canopy control!!! Tongue

Heath, your statement:
"as far as first timers go the perrine has a lot better landing zone and friendlier water"

I disagree. while both sites are perfect for a first base jump, I believe that New River Gorge on bridge day is a friendlier place to make your first jump than twin falls, and I have thrown a lot of inexperienced first timers off of my bridge in Idaho.

The New River Gorge is nearly twice as high, and with 6 totally dialed in rescue boats ready to pull you out of the water, I don't think the water can get much friendlier.

Extra altitude allows first timers those extra moments to gain/ regain stability before pitching and they get more time in the air so they must enjoy it more. Plus that platform is sweet and you got people there to check your gear and stuff. Unbeatable environment for first time jumpers. Really great. That was the best part of my bridge day experience; seeing all the first timers throw out perfect safe base jumps, very cool.

Oh, and you should go skydiving more old buddy, its fun and it will prepare you for the really fun stuff.

i agree with you i was thinking object in general of course the only time you should be jumping is during bridge day when there is boats.
dont worry i plan on skydiving "more" just short on $ but i have devised a plan for this winter and spring to get going.
