Re: [mrwatson] splitting guide wires..
I thought that was a depth illusion when I saw that video...thats pretty gnarly if he actually went through/under that guy wire.

Don't think he went through the guy wires. Under canopy he is still between the wires and no way he could have flown back, timewise.

It only looks that way.

Ive witnessed a jumper have a 170 left, fly through the wires unknowingly, then intentionally fly back thru them to land.

It was VERY sketchy, and I don't think they realized the seriousness of the situation at the time.

Re: [avenfoto] splitting guy wires..
that happened to me on my 4th jump. but i figured i went into the other section, turned and flew about 20' over the wire into the section i jumped. luckily it was a tall tower with 250' between each set

The only person I have ever heard of (and saw the video) shooting the guy wires of a tower was Dwain Weston. "that was a bit extreme..."

It doesn't seem quite so crazy, as long as you have a decent track going out away from the A. Just match your glide ratio to the angle of the guy wires, and one could even theoretically stay between the wires for a couple seconds without hitting. It's simple really! Laugh

Re: [Rauk] splitting guy wires..
Does anyone have the original video of it? I only saw a few second long clip in some documentary about Jeb...

I have the original from three angles: Dwain's helmet cam, my angle from directly below the wires, and DJ's camera from the bottom of the tower. The only one I haven't seen on-line is DJ's, which is funny because I think that's the best one.

The footage was published in several places, notably on a couple different ABA compilations, one sent in by Dwain (and then added to after I sent in a bit more of the post-landing footage, as I recall) and another as part of the Dwain memorial footage.

I could pretty easily dig up the ABA compilations (they are sitting on the shelf in my classroom) but my raw footage copies are all on Mini-DV tapes and I'm not even sure I have anything around here that will play a Mini-DV tape anymore.

Arvind definitely wins for the best line in the video, just after landing, on Dwain's angle. Smile
