New jump infos for LB
Hello All,

We (SBA) have been working through summer to find a way to better share information regarding the jumps in the Lauterbrunnen valley and hopefully improve our safety statistics there. Therefore we have created a summary info sheet which contains basic info on all of the jumps. The info summary is available here : http://www.basejumper.ch/...p;id=4&Itemid=58

As the page says, we have also created detailed info sheet for each of the basic exits and we are in progress of taking those info sheets to the corresponding exit points. You will find sheets looking like this in future on all basic exits : https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/...516_1621169350_n.jpg

This information is also available in the board on the wall of Horner bar. Please read it, spread it around and evaluate the decisions you take in the valley based on the info available.

Please also note the fine print : BASE jumping can be a highly dangerous sport that can easily injure and kill participants. All jumps in the Valley require excellent skydiving skills, proper BASE instruction and BASE specific gear. The ratings are subjective and to be considered as a general recommendation. You alone are responsible for your own safety and actions.

Play safe, act responsibly, pay your landing card, track hard and far and hafe fun!

On behalf of SBA,

Great job, guys!

Now, will magic boxes with porn magazines be on all Swiss exits? Wink

P.S. Just an observation about rock drops in general: many people 1) don't use precise time measuring devices, instead counting which leads to inflated rockdrop values; 2) throw rocks at high speed; and 3) don't subtract time it takes for sound to come back (~0.5s for 6s, so "dirty" 6s is actually 5.5s to impact).

I hope these factors are accounted for in these info sheets. One you may want to correct is Sputnik which is stated to be 7s rockdrop while it is in fact clean 5.3-5.5s to impact...

These factors are accounted (at least on main exits) on these info sheets. Most of the rock drops are actually measured by timing the drop with a stop watch while other jumper has abseiled over the edge to actually see the impact and not wait for the sound. Also these have been verified with laser range finder by measuring to the point of impact so most of them should be fairly accurate.

Speaking of Sputnik, I have personally never dropped a rock there but I have been told by the people who opened it that they lasered it to 230m (754ft) which based for example this chart : http://johnnyutah.com/freefallchart1.html would be around 7.5s. I find it quite difficult to believe (having jumped that site quite many times and several others with shorter starts) that it would be only 5.5s to impact. Or then the throw must be ridiculously weak (or no throw at all) and there is a 10cm outsticking ledge 120m below the exit which has no significance for jumping (which is perfectly possible that it is the case). I personally believe that 7.5s to the bottom of the wall (impact point with reasonable throw) feels quite right there.

Super! Smile If only everyone in the world had this Swiss-precision approach, and also stuffed exit points with such goodies as porn magazines, emergency essentials, etc., the world would become the true paradise! Kudos to you, guys.
