Re: [GhettoBird2] whats the charge!!!!!
It actually was one day past full moon. It was the "smallest" full moon of the year, but it was still bright enough to illuminate the road there.

I guess he did not have Dingo's #er.... Hind sight is always 20/20, glad he was not injured. They may charge him for the rescue effort, that could be expensive.

Unfortunate situation for the jumper. From what I saw today, where the canopy was, a friend assisted rescue would have been damn near impossible without an elaborate rope system and tree climbing gear. Even then, there was no good way to rig a belay or pulley system. The tree is based about 20 feet above the fireroad on the sidehill, and the tree itself is half dead and angled about 25 or 30 degrees out over the road, with no branches to climb. The branch the canopy was still hanging on today was damn near the top of the tree and about 40 ft long, skinny nasty branch im surprised didnt break. Not too mention probably 70 ft off the deck, so hanging by his lines id say he was 60ish feet off the ground. Even if someone got a rope up to the top of the tree, threw the end to the dude, he would still have to cut away and pendulum on a half dead skinny branch.

What is the time that ones body starts to cut off blood circulation and causes death after being in a harness??

i heard 1-2 hours depending on load weight....

You are one lucky person and i hope your body pulls through in the long term...

bad luck about that one...

Do people really jump off that bridge? Seems crazy.

Harness hang syndrome is usually just knocks you unconcious and doesnt specifically kill you itself. If you just lay there and dont struggle, you can be unconcious in 10 minutes or less. Key is to keep trying to move and elevate your legs.

I was under the impression that if you get suspension trauma the most problematic issue is that when the suspension/compression is removed all the toxins from the affect area get into the blood circulation and cause problems with your heart etc. So if you get bad stuff from it it'll happen pretty much right after you're release from what ever is keeping your arms/legs from getting normal blood circulation.

Re: [jasonnever] whats the charge!!!!!
Maybe it was a ground launch during a nice bright moon night??? Who knows from a legal standpoint? Is ground launching in the canyon illegal? Besides, who would be crazy enough to jump from a perfectly good bridge when there are great hills to ground launch right there? Smile

I would think any one of us hanging in a harness for that amount of time would figure it was time to get some other help as soon as possible if we were running out of options and losing blood flow to extremities.

I was not there, but from what I understand from plenty of other sources it was a tough decision, but it had to be made at the time. Mistakes can happen to anyone, sometimes they might leave you DED or sometimes in a tough predicament where a decision has to be made even if it is unfortunate enough to attract media. Glad no one was hurt.

Oh yea, it's pretty easy to follow the moon calendar or just look outside and I'm pretty sure last night was a pretty bright night.

Re: [nickfrey] whats the charge!!!!!
care to share why you landed in a tree, winds? vision? newer jumper? not rippin on ya just curious.

i've had to be plucked from the mountain in norway before from a low pull and landing in a area impossible to get down without rope/harness or heli. i felt horrible about it as it was a stupid fucking move on my part. my jump was legal and rescue did not cost but i still know some of what your feeling.

glad you made it out uninjuried.

One guy was hanging on a guy wire 80 meters above ground for 5 hours, and it was a cold russian winterWink So i think the whole harness syndrome is overstated. You just loosen your leg straps one by one, it helps.

Re: [REDAKTOR] whats the charge!!!!!
I witnessed once a wall strike where the poor guy broke his arm, elbow, shoulder and leg on one side. He afterwards said that after about 1 1/2 hours hanging around he had more pain from the legstraps than from his broken bones...
