BUSTED!
Just got busted. I don't even know where to begin on this one... It started out just before sunrise. Me and another jumper went to a local 258ft free stander for an early morning jump. We get there, hop the fence, gear up and start climbing. About half way up the home owner for the house that is litteraly right at the base of the A came home. Not knowing if he saw us we keep climbing. As soon as we get to the top the A crew shows up, opens the gate and starts working on something on the ground. So, we wait them out, 45min go by and two more cars show up at the house and four or five guys are now outside talking to the home owner. At this point there is still no indication that we are busted. The get-a-way car is parked on the side of a side road just through the woods and we see two cars pull up next to ours and the people are walking around our car looking in the windows. After looking at our options we decided to risk it and climb down. The plan was to get down and run like hell. We were going to jump but when the sun came up the wind started up pretty good, being on top of a hill in a field next to woods which are next to a lake, the wind was pretty turbulent. So we decided not to jump. As we are climbing down the four or five guys and the home owner were standing in the yard looking at us climb down. They never say a word. The A crew could not see us at all because of the building at the base of the A and where they were working. We get on the ground and walk around the corner of the building and one of the workers heard us and turned to look. He was very calm and just looked at us, he didn't know what to think seeing two guys with gear on calmly walking past him. I waved at him and we ran like hell into the small patch of trees that surrounded the perimeter fence. We jumped the fence, ran across the field and into the woods. Once in the woods we put our gear in our stash bags and ran back to the car. The two cars that were parked there are now gone and we breath a sigh of relief. As we get to our car a large SUV rolls up and a man and woman get out. The first thing they say to us is which one of you is Matt? He left his work ID laying where you could see his name and photo. They were the land owners of where we parked and the home owner was her brother.
They said they knew we were BASE jumping and they saw cars there a couple of weeks ago and even more in the past. We were honest and straight up them. The man was asking questions on how everything worked so we demonstrated the a 'pca' on the ground for them and explained to them how everything worked. They said for us not to come back and they wouldn't call the cops and press charges if we gave them our word we would not be back. They thanked us for being honest with them and talking to them. We waved good by and then went home and cleaned the shit out of our pants.
Wow, first bust and burn. Damn.
