Reserve TARD
Just curious...how dangerous is it to do a TARD on a 7cell reserve from a 360 deg clearance object?

Re: [Zebu] Reserve TARD
it shouldn't really be any more dangerous than doing it with a BASE canopy.

I've TARDED, rolled over, and MaryPoppined with a PDR253 that PD sent back to me with a big UNAIRWORTHY written on on the label. :)

What is the altitude?

Re: [Zebu] Reserve TARD
Tards and tardovers can be safely done off of a large variety of object, just remember that wind is probably the biggest factor in your heading performance, well as long as you know how to set up a tard.

Try doing that with a 27 cell Xaos 78!

Then again, I'm about 100 pounds lighter.

It's hypothetical so there really isn't an altitude; however, I'd say 150-200' (I'd be conservative and do 200) minimum. Ya I know people can do them lower, but I think 200' gives some margin?

You should definitely do some TARDs from an easy training object before you start doing "hypotheticals." There is really no way to know what margin you will have until you do some for yourself.

6 weeks ago you were just wanting to Ground Crew

Did you get a massive influx of skill and experience in that time ???

doing a TARD from 200ft is quite easy. If you have experience doing them, and if you know your canopy is not going to do anything funny. Personally, I think that's two ifs too many.

This sounds like an incident waiting to happen. Get video dude!

0.o I legitimately mean hypothetical. I like to ask questions. I'm curious. I figure I should ask as many of my questions before I start BASE as I can...

more questions = more knowledge = safer?

Back to topic...Also, no one mentioned it but I'm sure everyone assumed...you'd take your PC and bridle off =P

Re: [Zebu] Reserve TARD
asking questions about tarding a skydiving canopy isnt going to help you with base.
plus theres no need to take the pc and bridle off of a skydiving reserve, cause there isnt one attached.
but anyone who skydives would know this right?

Re: [epibase] Reserve TARD
I use a 215 Orion reserve canopy as my main...which means it does have a PC and bridle.

By "reserve" I mean a canopy intended/manufactured for use as a reserve. Also, if you TARD a skydiving canopy off a fixed object...how is this not BASE?

I've heard the argument made that if it's not packed, it's not a BASE jump. I also know some old school guys who believe that a static line (or PCA) isn't a BASE jump, either.

A longish while back I did a rollover to a cutaway and a Russian friend of mine told me that in his opinion that counted as zero BASE jumps, because I had left the object unpacked and had left an aircraft (the first canopy) with my packed canopy, which made it a skydive.

Bottom line, who the heck cares if it's BASE or not? Did you have fun? Was the experience worthwhile? Did you learn something about either yourself or your gear? Did you improve your chance of surviving subsequent experiences? Most importantly, were you wearing a viking helmet or having some sort of intercourse with a transvestite?
