Film Maker looking for Documentary subjects
I am an independent UK based Film Maker currently in pre-production of an documentary revolving around the world of Base Jumping. I do not come from the Base Community, but I would like to explore both the psychology and thought process of base, as well as the process itself. I'd like someone to give me an insight into the community and their lives - whether legal or illegal.

What I am looking for is three primary characters (the identities of whom may can be protected) for my film, which I will be shooting in the UK and Europe between now and late November.

The film will be shot as part of a final year Film School module, but will also be entered into a number if film festivals in Summer 2012. The film will not be televised on network TV.

Although our budget is small - we can provide travel expenses, and we come with all the equipment needed for a professional shoot. You will get beautiful, glossy footage to keep completely free of charge.

My main background is within documentary and music promo - please don't hesitate to have a look at some of my previous work:

You could try this guy.

Obviously likes attention, and what better starting place than his very first jump! I am sure his mentor at Hib (is it you Dweeb?) would love the attention to.

Part of the problem with how our sport is portrayed in the media is the selection of jumpers who are subjects in film projects like this one.

I'd love to see an honest documentary about a normal guy making BASE jumps in a fairly normal fashion.

All the better if he had some incredibly dull job like secondary school teacher. Wink

Sounds like piss poor planning to me. You seem to have everything planned out, time table, location, story line, etc. But you don't have any BASE jumpers lined up. Your lack of research shows. If you had done any research you would have found out it will be harder than you think to find someone. Just look at the replies so far.

Good luck.

Re: [gauleyguide] Film Maker looking for Documentary subjects
Thanks for all the replies and PMs - I had no idea that the BASE community would be this supportive and keen to get their views across. I'd especially like to thank MBA-PATTO for pointing me in the right direction.

I'd like to stress that I want this documentary to be a raw, honest unscripted depiction of the athleticism and skill involved in BASE jumping. I am not one bit interested in making a docu-drama that misrepresents this phenomenal sport.

Thanks for your reply gauleyguide. The pre-production for this project started last Tuesday, and as a university major project we are bound by tight deadlines. Finding jumpers willing to share their expertise and passion is half the battle. I understand that finding these people isn't going to be easy, however there are some still out there. I'd like to thank everyone who has replied so far.

All the Best,
Ross

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: [to Igor] Now that brain that you gave me. Was it Hans Delbruck's?
Igor: [pause, then] No.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Ah! Very good. Would you mind telling me whose brain I DID put in?
Igor: Then you won't be angry?
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: I will NOT be angry.
Igor: Abby someone.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: [pause, then] Abby someone. Abby who?
Igor: Abby... Normal.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: [pause, then] Abby Normal?
Igor: I'm almost sure that was the name.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: [chuckles, then] Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long, fifty-four inch wide GORILLA?
[grabs Igor and starts throttling him]
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Is that what you're telling me?

Re: [TomAiello] Film Maker looking for Documentary subjects
Excerpt from definition of "normal" taken from Merriam-Webster:

2a : according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle b : conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern
3: occurring naturally <normal immunity>
4a : of, relating to, or characterized by average intelligence or development b : free from mental disorder : sane

Kind of excludes BASE it would seem.
